confused and scared of herpes text results

Hello to whoever is listening :-)...I'm must admit I'm really scared and nervous about my herpes test results..about 4 months ago I had sex with an ex :-(..it was a mistake that I regret but neways I hadn't had sex in year before the incident..we didn't use protection which wasn't very smart on my end, to make a long story short I went to my doctor and got test for stds 3 weeks out everything came back negative so I was happy..I want to get test for herpes so I waited until 13 weeks after possible exposer and my igg  was negative for hsv 1 and 2 but my igm was positive. My doctor told me to get retested in 3 months but i 've been driving myself crazy to the point where I'm stressed out..so I plan on taking another igg test since its been 18 weeks..but should I ? I don't think I can wait another 2 months :-(..am I negative ?  Or should I be worried ?

First of all, CALM DOWN.  The IGM test is worthless, sure it may be a tool for "recent infection" but studies have shown that these tests are not reliable and they can cause false positives from other viruses/ invaders that cross react!... forget about the IGM.  All u can do is wait for the appropriate time to be tested. ANy symptoms?  dont worry about anything until u have to!.. even its is is positive.. its not the end of the world..and its could be a lot worse!   Does ur ex know his status?

He said he was test 3 weeks ago but that was back on Nov 18 when I last talk to him..he said that he was clean but then again idk if he's telling the truth. But I did read that the igm wasn't a good test, I'm just so confused because i'v been getting so much differenet information about herpes and my doctor said it could be a false positive because my igg came back negative..I haven't had any symptoms but then again you can still have herpes with no symptoms..I thought 13 weeks would be an accurate test since every medical site say wait 12-16 weeks after exposure..but I guess not :-(

you might to ask to see his results. many STD panels do not include testing for herpes. So many of my guy friends will go to planned parenthood after a few risky nights and think they have been tested for herpes, but they dont test for herpes in a lot of those clinics unless symptoms are present.  If u arent in contact with him, GOOD (in my opinion), what matters most is your STD status, especially if ur not gonna be with him, if u are thats another story, then u should know what he has.   At this point I would refrain from sex until 4 months post exposure than get retested. If ur negative... move on.  As u read more posts on this forum u will see that many people after a positive IGM, will be negative IGG! Good luck

Last possible exposure Aug 9 2010..took igg and igm test on Nov 8 test came back igg negative for hsv 1 and 2 but igm came back positive on Nov 18 from labcorp, I haven't had sex since last exposure...

Im not a doctor, but I really think u are fine. The IGM could be anything!!!  ... u tested at 3 months...for most people I think seroconversion (when ur blood as detectable antibodies) would have occurred, maybe Grace can weigh in on that fact. Maybe test in January and see where u are at??

Also I took an igg test 3 weeks, 8 weeks and 13 weeks out after possible exposure and all were negative..but once my doctor gave me the igm it came back positive..

you are stressing needlessly. this is one of the main reasons why the herpes igm test isn't recommended to be drawn. instruct your provider to read the newly released herpes guidelines in the 2010 cdc std guidelines so that they can update their herpes testing knowledge!! It specifically tells providers now NOT TO ORDER HERPES IGM TESTING on adults!!

you have no reason for more testing.    negative igg's at 13 weeks is fine for covering your bases!  

now go enjoy the holiday season - or stress yourself out over it if you aren't ready for it yet :)   bake cookies for stress relief and drop them off at my house !!!

Ok so I'm back today is exactly 6 months after last possible exposure of herpes..now I know everyone says that the igm test is worthless and to ignore your results and go with your igg results..now my igg result about 3 months ago were negative for hsv 1 & 2 but if u read my post igm was positive..now I took another igg test today I pray its negative for hsv 1 & 2...I just wanna know is there anybody who has tested 3 month after a positve igm or anyone who know someone who has test after that time frame and what were their results ????

Ok so I just talked to my doctor and got my test results came back and my igg after 6 months was negative for hsv 1 & 2..I'm so excited these last 6 months has been so stressful I mean that igm really scared me when it came back positive..so to everyone I wish all good luck on their situation and for anyone who is going through what I just went through..all I can is pray and believe and you will be ok just keep your faith :-)
