could you pass herpes by fingering

I am just wanting to know,
If a man has herpes and has touched himself around the area with the herpes virus in this case the penis. (genital herpes)
Then without washing his hands begins four-play (fingering) a woman, is it possible for the woman to receive the herpes virus?

erm this is nothing to do with me atleast not yet.
my girlfriend got fingered by a male with genital herpes they was drunk and he may have touched himself then fingered her i was just curious if there could of been any chances. mainly for sexual safety reasons.

This is really low risk to the female.  unless there was an obvious herpes lesion present at the time, odds are the virus wasn't active anyways.
