they are the same thing.  If someone diagnosed someone as having herpes vaginitis then they have genital herpes.

Toothpaste like close up or colgate. Any that is real minty works wonders when you start to feel an outbreak comming. Just take a lil and dab where it itches and tingles...must act quickly. Keep applying, and eventually it will be gone within the hour. it has worked for me....hope it works for you!
To answer your question, i went to the Dr. and he never did a test on me. He looked and knew. I have it on my chin. Well after looking very worried and upset.... he said relax, it isn't the same as what's  down their. I didn't have it down their, so assumed he meant it was different. I believe it to be the same, just different places.
