I am taking 800mg of acyclovir 5 times a day. I have had a cornea transplant and am prone to viral infection. Is there another drug which is equal but not too expensive,

Thanks,
Debbie

I removed your other post since it was essentially the same post. Please read our read before posting post on this forum if you haven't already.

Acyclovir 400mg 2x/day is the regular suppressive therapy dose.

We've only studied transmission reduction to a partner with valtrex. We assume the other 2 antivirals, acyclovir and famvir , have similar results. anything you do that reduces shedding of the virus reduces the amount of times a partner is likely to come into contact with active herpes and all 3 herpes antivirals reduce shedding similarly.

are you taking valtrex or acyclovir?

Are you taking acyclovir 400mg 2x/day or just 800mg once a day?
