does the test work even if you havent had any breakouts?

by arainbowofpink, Feb 13, 2009 07:15AM
I had a STD test about a month or two ago, and my doc said it tested for gonoreah, clamydia (chlamydia), herpes simplex or something like it, and a few others. it tested positive for clamydia (chlamydia) but not for herpes. anyway, my question is, is it possible that I do have herpes but that I havent had any breakouts so the test doesn't pick up on it? or would the urine test pick up on the herpes anyway regardless of if i'v had any breakouts?
any help much appreciated, i am freakin myself out over here i just want to be sure!
thanks.

We can best help you if you can post the herpes test results you had done here - ie hsv1 igg 3. 4 and hsv2 igg . 34 or whatever they are.

How long after you last had had sex did you have your testing done?

it would have been a couple of months after I had sex with the person who I think infected me, thats the problem though Im not 100% sure it was them. My doc never gave me those results she just said you tested negative for herples simplex 1 & 2.

I guess what Im asking is is it possible for the herpes to go undetected if you have never had a breakout?

I will try and find those exact figures though, thank you for your help grace.

Yes, the blood tests will work, a culture wouldn't, which is why Grace said that you needed to find out what test you had done.
