I recently had a herpes test it came back positive... the percent was 2.75 (herpes 2). I was told that it was relitavely low but that i was only exposed to the virus. I kno exactly when and who i could have been exposed by. It was Late october 2008 and november 18th 2008 and I had 5 sexual
encounters with this indivisual. Since then I have had no symptoms. The thing is my obgyn only sent in testing for and IGG test. The lab that conducted the testing says that i have been exposed to the virus but that another test must be done to determine wether i actually have the virus, the name of this test is called the IGM and this is considered the confromation test for herpes. My question is; is it possible to be exposed to the virus and test positive for the IGG test and negative for the IGM test therefore NOT having the vurus?
either the lab has given you erroneous info or the people there you talked to are misinformed :(
don't bother with the igm test. it's a crappy test for herpes and we never recommend having it done.
Have you ever been tested for herpes before?
your hsv2 igg is on the low side. At this point wait another 2 months and then repeat it. if it's still under 3.5 you should pursue additional testing to rule out a false positive unless you get an obvious lesion before then to get cultured and typed to confirm your infection.
