I had a culture done of a bump/blister in the genital area. My culture came back negative for Herpes but positive for a bacterial infection. I felt I needed a herpes blood test just to be sure. I was tested for HSV 1 and 2 and an exposure test was also done. My HSV results were negative for 1 and 2, but I was told by the nurse that I have had a recent exposure. They cannot tell if I have been exposed to #1 or #2 but she said a blood test 6 months from now would tell. She also said that I will be positive for one of them at that time. When I had the test done I was told you could be exposed, and aquire antibodies but never get HSV 1 or 2. Which one of these is true. Since I have been exposed, will I definetly develop HSV 1 or 2. My concern is due to the fact that I have been married for 8 years. If my results are positive, this could change my marriage. I have not been with anyone else in 9 years, so i'm unsure of how I was "recently" exposed.
It sounds like your provider ran a herpes igm test which isn't worthwhile. It's given you no answers whatsoever and was a complete waste of your time :( http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/248394 is a prior post with more info on this in. The provider also is obviously stressing your marriage with this method of testing. I certainly at this point would not be suspecting hubby of being unfaithful.
Call monday and ask if you also had a herpes igg blood test and find out what the results are to post here. All I need are the actual numeric results - ie hsv1 igg 4.3 and hsv2 igg 7.5 or whatever they are. If they only give you one result - say a hsv1/2 65.4 or something along those lines, then the igg testing they did was also a waste of time. If that turns out to be the case, try to remember to ask them what lab they use and then I can try to get you the exact test number they want to order for you. If this is a newly acquired herpes infection though it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months to be reflected in the igg blood test for you so if you are really concerned that this is herpes and not just a bacterial skin infection, hubby also needs the type specific herpes igg blood test done too.
Hope that makes sense and if it doesn't - just keep asking questions until I find a way to better explain it to you :)
