herpes in multiple places

Okay this is a complex situation.  So about 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with herpes of the esophagus.  This came as a complete shock considering I had never had a herpes outbreak anywhere else on my body.  I know this is very rare, especially since I am immunocompetent (had tests done for all different kinds of cancer and hiv).  So the doctors placed me on valtrex, taking 2000 mg a day.  Now to my question.  If I had a herpes outbreak in a different part of my body, would it reduce the symptons?  I am wondering this because I have a mild rash (no bumps, mild irritation) on my scrotum for the last 3 days.  Im just trying to figure if this is herpes but with very mild symptons because the medicine i'm on or just a mild case of jock itch.  Thanks for your help in advance.

How did they diagnose you as having herpes in your throat? Did they do a lesion culture at all to know if it's hsv1 or hsv2?

Just mild irritation probably isn't due to herpes. If it gets worse/progresses to obvious lesions then follow up on it with your provider.
