herpes knowledge

i was tested for herpes 1&2 last year ,my results were negative for type 2,but positive for type 1.i have not had sex with anyone in over a year since before the test was done.there are only 2 ways i could have gotten it ,one is from a vaginal ultrasound ,maybe used dirty condom ,or by a man who fingered me.i went to my pcp and thought i had yeast infection and she gave me a pap smear and said i had a cyst,sent it to the lab,and report cam back saying.....rare a typical squamous cells of undetermined significance cellar changes,consistent with herpes simplex virus...but it doesnt say type 1 or 2.what does this mean.......

you won't get herpes from fingering.

it's very unlikely that you contracted herpes from a vaginal ultrasound, even if they didn't change the probe cover in between you and the last patient ( which I find unlikely to have occurred ).

A pap test coming back with cells suggestive of herpes isn't very accurate for diagnosing genital herpes. It won't tell you which type you have either.

could your hsv1 be genital? It could be but odds are it's oral like most adults and the pap test gave the erroneous results.

im going to get another blood test wednesday.and pap smear cause my cervix are bloody to the touch.i was thinking that it could be type one since i tested negative for type two.can you get type 1 down there and do u still take the valtrex  if its type 1...they p rescribed it for me to take for a year straight.these are the same doctors who said me and my daughter both had lumpus....i think they are quacks....

you can have hsv1 genitally . it doesn't reoccur very often on average.   It's not likely your friable cervix is due to a hsv1 recurrence though.

no reason to take valtrex suppressively for a year actually. At this point you need to confirm that you do have genital herpes and what type more than anything.

i tested positive for both 1 and 2 herpes.i took valtrex for 7 days.i asked the gyn if it was possible for us to have oral sex,he said it would be ok,but he might get some skin tags in his throat but it was not dangerous.i also have high risk hpv  and the dr. said it is ok for oral sex.whats ur advice.my boyfriend said he doesnt care what i have that he planned to be with me 4 ever that he didnt want to wear a condom either that i was going to be the last woman he would be with til GOD comes back for us.so my question is does an outbreak of 1 and two go away on its own without taking valtrex and is it ok to have oral sex....pros and cons

can you please get your actual test results to post - e.g. hsv1 igg 6.8 and hsv2 igg .23 or whatever they are? thanks - I can best help you once I see those.

herpes absolutely does not cause skin tags. neither does hpv.

when were you tested + for high risk hpv?

the test i had done was just to check for herpes.and it came back saying tested positive for herpes simplex 1&2...the didnt run the other test cause my insurance doesnt pay for it.and i dont have 4 thousand dollars to have those tests ran.no my partner has not been tested he goes friday to get tested...i feeel i already have another out break and i just took the valtrex last week.but it feeel tinglely and much like a severe yeast infection....also a friend told me tht if u have sex with out break and one of the herpes burst u are able to get cellulitis from that.now im in much fear to have sex....i have only had protected sex with my partner thus far.cause i told him that if for some strange reason we didnt work out i didnt want to pass herpes to anyone else that he might be with...he said i was going to be his last but u never know....

i was tested for it and was positive 2009....i have had 6 month paps since then and my nurse practioner said it was gone.but within the last month i retested for it again.the gyn said i do indeed have 13 different strands of high risk hpv....

no herpes igg blood test costs $4000.   you can get it done yourself through an online testing place like tstd.org or healthcheckusa.com for under $200.

if you are having symptoms again, be seen for a repeat exam and proper testing for vaginitis. don't self treat because you think it feels like a yeast infection - confirm it! women only accurately guess yeast 1 out of every 3 times so it's well worth getting tested for it. If you have bv and not yeast, it will keep your herpes  more active until it's properly treated.

it's not that you have 13 different types of hpv. It's that you are + for one of the 13 types of high risk hpv. that's the way some labs report results for hpv testing.

WHERE DO U GET THE HERPES HANDBOOK?AND THAT WHAT I TOLD MY GYN THAT I DONOT HAVE 13 DIFFERENT TYPES OF HPV AND HE SAID THAT I DO IN FACT HAVE 13 DIFFERENT TYPES...I SAID OK WHATEVA,AND ASKED HIM IF IT WAS OK TO HAVE ORAL SEX OR CAN HIGH RISK HPV BE TRANSFERED TO THE MOUTH..HE TOLD ME NO IT DOESNT TRANSFERE FROM ORAL SEX THAT IT STAYS IN THE VAGINA AND GET TESTED PAP SMEAR EVERY 6 MONTHS.

your provider doesn't understand how the lab reports results :(  Perhaps you need a different gyn?

you can transmit hpv with oral sex but the risk is overall low.

i hate to keep bothering you bout this but is it ok to have oral sex with testing positive for herpes 1&2...the gyn said that it was ok but that you might get tags in your throat....will it go away if it gets in your mouth i do not take valtrax or any other meds for it...i cant afford them every month for rest my life...

herpes does not cause tags in the throat.

you need to pursue better testing at this point for herpes before you start taking any medication.

no my partner has not been tested for herpes.but we have had sex without using a condom.that was his choice not mine.i wanted him to stay protected in case we did not make it ,so that he would not expose anyone else.and now hes asking bout me giving him oral sex.i told him that i thought it might not be a good idea since i have the 2 viruses,herpes and high risk hpv.what kinda testing should i be asking for.i have a dr. app tomorrow and my insurance runs out dec.2...so if u could type out the testing i will ask my dr. tomorrow when i go....thank you so much 4 your help grace...

You need a herpes western blot at this point. if your provider uses  quest labs, it's test #34534.

i have gone to the dr. asked for that test,she doesnt use quest labs.so she didnt know how to convert test 34534 to the lab she uses..i have been back to her last week told her i needed a wet prep tested for bv and yeast,and the other std.she would not test me for them eeven tho im have itching and white dischage.there is not a smell at this time but when i had my cycle on the 11 it smelled so bad that i gagged myself.she just assumed that it was bv and gave me 4 flagyl pills.i did not take them thus far.i tolod her that due to my ulcerative colitis i do not need to take antibotic (antibiotic)  if there is nothing to treat.she said nothing bout the herpes again.could it be that i had a flare up and now im shedding.the first time i broke out it was in the vagina and i never knew i had it.i thought it was yeast...can you get another infection if you have sex and break one the blisters inside the vagina....these dr round here are not good as you can tell....im getting at a lost...none the dr. seeem to want to test the herpes just say i have type 1&2...

you can't get a herpes WB through any other lab.

at this point, call the U of washington monday and ask them to send the WB kit to you. your provider can then order it to be drawn and sent out from whatever lab he uses. http://depts.washington.edu/rspvirus/herpes.htm

how much is a wb.and can u get a bacterial infection or anything of that nature if you have a herpes breakout in vagina and bust one the blisters

$162.50  gets paid to the U of washington lab. the  local lab will also charge to draw the blood and send it for you.

herpes lesions typically do not get infected with bacteria.

so is it ok  to have sex if you have a breakout in the vagina if its not painful...its not painful at all just itchy and dischargy.and light cramping like a cycle

if you and your partner both have the same type of genital herpes you can have sex during symptoms. otherwise avoid sex during symptoms to protect your partner.

itch and discharge are often non-herpes issues so avoiding sex during them is a good idea too.

me and my partner use condoms.do we still need to avoid sex during discharge..he got checked for stds not sure bout herpes as of yet but tested neg to the others.i do not know if they checked him for herpes...a friend told me that if you are not in a breakout when blood is drawn then the test may not pick up herpes is that a myth

im not sure what the symptoms are...i didnt know i had it til i had symptons of yeast infection.so im not sure when to avoid sex.but always wear condom

yes you do still need to avoid sex when you might have anything infectious going on. condoms aren't 100% protection.  

only lesion cultures need active symptoms. blood tests look at the igg response to infection with herpes so you can get them regardless of if you have ever had symptoms or not.

i got my  herpes test back...it said my igg for type 1 was 556   and my herpes igg type 2was 700.....my partner was 459 on herpes 2type..and his dr. dint check him for type 1 said most everyone has that type...so there is the numbers does it tell you anything

were there any decimel points in there?  if not, then you had a test that we currently recommend everyone confirm with different testing due to the very high false positive rate with it.
