herpes on mid back

like most I thought herpes was only a STD. So how do you get herpes on your back. I though i was getting bit by a spider but it was happened in the same spot several times. I know nothing about herpes but now need to know can i get it anywhere now? was the space on my back the part of my body that was origionally infected , when  ever that was.. Can I brak out anywhere now?
