I have had oral symptoms of HSV1 since childhood, but only very rarely. I may have given my boyfriend HSV1 orally because he's never had a coldsore, but he's never had any outbreaks after we started dating about a year ago. We recently had unprotected oral sex
partners and neither has he, so it's not like there's any other way we could have gotten genital herpes. Is it even possible to get infected with HSV1 genitally when you already have it orally?
no, you didn't get hsv1 genitally to cause these symptoms. it won't happen as you described plus you have significant protection against that happening since you have it orally already.
see your provider monday for a proper work up and testing for yeast and bacterial vaginal infections. they are the most likely culprits.
Thank you for your reply, Grace! I do have another question though. Is oral sex known to cause any of these types of irritations? It just seems too great of a coincidence to me that I got them the day after unprotected oral sex. I now also have symptoms of a cold, which I read could be indicative of herpes, or could just be indictive of, well, a cold. I am going to see my doctor tomorrow so that she can run some tests. Could a test for HSV1 tell me if I have it genitally or would it just always come back positive because I have it orally? Thanks again for your time!
