herpes symptom?

I had an on / off partner who was recently diagnosed with herpes after 3 years of no symptoms. We had intercourse the day before he had his first symptoms (which now I understand I'm at a higher risk for contracting it too)... I was tested as soon as his results came back positive for Herpes type II. Mine came back negative, but to get an accurate test, my doc asked me to be tested again in 8 weeks - b/c of the last night my ex-partner and I spent together. Currently, it's been only 6 weeks and my mind is going nuts...  So, I keep reading about varying symptoms for herpes... When you look up pics of herpes, it seems to be worst case pics. I have heard about " bumps, pimples", etc and wondering if my symptoms qualify. I have very little, white, under the skin bumps (maybe 2-3). Sometimes itchy and only painful after I have been anxiously "messing" with them. No blisters, no rash. Does this sound like herpes? From what I gather, if you do have an outbreak, the symptoms are very recognizable. Is that the case?

what testing did your partner have done?  did he have a lesion culture that was typed or just a lesion culture that was hsv+ and assumed hsv2 or just a visual diagnosis of herpes?

your skin bumps don't sound like herpes.
