I have been with my husband for 21 years neither of us have had any symptoms of herpes, 1 week ago we had intercourse I was dry when my husband was playing with my clitoris got a little rough and then I cut myself with my finger nail, I was very sore thought it would go away, but about two days later I was very swollen on on side with the cuts looking very white and ugly looking then I had sores develop on that side and the oustide of the vaginal area; the were not red or painful no flu like symtoms (symptoms) just very sore. I was told I have a bacterial infection, but it still could be herpes. Is that possible after all those years? I also shave. I'm augmentin now for the infection.
your description does sound like a bacterial infection more than herpes.
if you need the peace of mind, both you and your partner can both get type specific herpes igg blood tests done to see who has what. odds are that neither of you have ever been tested for herpes before. it's not a part of routine testing.
also don't shave until the skin is back to normal completely.
They took cultures from me, No shaving for while; Thanks for you help; I have been taken the augumentin since yesterday and I'm getting a lot of yellow thick discharge all over the infected area. I'm a DES Daughter and have PCOS I'm at risk for cancer as it is. Don' want anymore surprises.
well augmentin will only take care of the skin infection, not any infection that is causing abnormal vaginal discharge if that's where the discharge is coming from. did they do any testing of your vaginal discharge when you were seen?
When I went to the doctor they were just sores, but not blister like sores; he did some scraping; the dischare is coming from the sores and the lacerations. They are much smaller looking now; my clitoris is redder now was white looking still very sensitive to the touch. I believe he only tested me for herpes.
give this a few more days. try something as simple as soaking in the bathtub with epsom salts thrown in too ( cheap, easy to find and how much to use on the back of the box ). Helps to soothe irritated skin and dry out any infection.
Everything seems to be clearing up good, even more so since doing the epson salt soak everynight. Burns like a ***** though. My swab came back positive, but the doctor is not happy because they never typed me so he asking them to type me, which he stated that is what they are suppose to do, he said practically everyone will be type 1 positive but when I see him on Friday he is doing a Igg on me. Do you think I need it if I'm only type 1?
it's too early for igg testing on just you if this is a newly acquired infection. you and your husband both should get it done to see who has what. A newly acquired herpes infection won't show up on your testing this early so knowing his status too is helpful. call and see if they can just include his testing too - many docs will order for a partner.
if you get any new lesions or new discharge in the next month, be sure to be seen promptly again too. yeast or bv wouldn't be unusual with all of this especially along with your antibiotic use. It could even be that you have more than 1 thing going on too so being seen when you have symptoms will also be helpful at this point.
loads of fun eh?
dermoplast spray ( the blue can for the genital area, not the red can ), is under $10 at most drugstores. It's a spray on anesthetic that you can use for pain relief too. Give that a try too.
if you get a squirt bottle, fill it with lukewarm water and squirt it over your genital area as you urinate. it helps dilute the urine while peeing so it stings less too.
did they give you some valtrex or acyclovir too since you got a + herpes culture?
See that is what is confusing;I had positive culture but don't know if type 1 or type 2; I know you can have herpes not know it; but after 21 years I would think if it was type 2 my husband or I would have had symptoms at some point. The doctor told me if it was herpes augmentin would not get rid of the sores, they would be there for weeks, they are almost gone also the cuts are doing really well, almost healed. The largest cut is taking a little longer than the rest. I guess I will find out on friday when I acutally see him again.
the lesions from herpes will heal on their own in 1-3 weeks even without treatment for a newly acquired infection. over 90% of folks who have hsv2, have no idea they have it until tested. you also can transmit hsv1 to the genital area through oral sex too, even if you can't recall ever having had cold sores.
both of you can follow up with type specific herpes igg blood tests at this point.
make sure they also test you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally when seen friday too. augmentin is known for causing yeast vaginitis :( no need to wait until you have a rip roaring obvious yeast infection to get tested for it since you are going back this week.
I'm 45 years old I have had some much stuff wrong with me seizure's, severe allergies when I was young, really bad acne was on accutane, I'm probably have had a cold sore just don't remember or my husband could have a cold sore. I'm trying to think my husband did complain about burning his mouth about two weeks ago and a sore in his mouth never know an we have had oral sex since then.
Hi final found some answers An yes I did get a yeast infection and bacteral vagonsis from the augmentin I was then put on Flagyl for that, never want to take that stuff again made me sick. I was positive for type 1, new infected My IgG was only at 7.2, she said it should be 9.0 she will test me again in 6 weeks. the Culture was positive for herpes 1. I guess I had both going on bacteriainfection and the herpes. She called a prescripition for me for Acyclovir if I feel any sypmtoms coming on. My doctor gave me a lecture about always using lubricant no matter what when having intercourse because of my other conditions, because I'm on the dry side, I don't always do that because I think I'm wet enough. Thanks for listening.
if you get bv again, ask for the metrogel ( vaginal flagyl ). Less side effects from it but you still can't drink any alcohol while on it. it actually is better than the oral flagyl.
how long after the initial symptoms was your blood test done? no reason for more herpes blood testing though, you have a + lesion culture that was typed for hsv1 so you know what you have and where you have it. also are you getting tested in the US?
I've found the older I get, the more I need to break out the lube too. If only they'd make them easier to use so that you don't have sticky everywhere. Took me forever to get the hand print off my wall.....lol.
Yes tested from the US. The IgG was about 1 to 2 weeks from the symptoms, my doctor called me today and said I don't need another IgG because the culture was positive for type 1, she said the prescription is at the pharmacy if needed. She said I might never have another out break, but to watch for the symptoms. She gave me a good website about herpes type 1. Just a FYI, I buy my lube from Slumberparties, awesome stuff not sticky like KY, no hand prints..... LOL
recurrences should be few and far between for you but always good to have the antivirals on hand to start at the first sign of a recurrence.
never realized where I tend to put my hands on the wall until one day when the light hit right...lol. keep threatening to build a rock climbing wall behind the bed or something!!! Getting too old to not have something to grab onto...he he he
