herpes???

about 3 years ago i found out that my husband was having an affair....shortly after that we were having oral sex and the next day, my lips started to feel tingly, itchy, and slightly burning...i used a medicated chapstick that relieved the symptoms....i noticed a few cuts and the back of my throat became sore....a year goes by and the symptoms would come and go, but i never experienced a cold sore on my lips.....about 4 months ago, i got a sore on my vagina after having unprotected sex with him....i went and got blood tested about a month ago, and was told that i was positive for hsv2 (immunoassay antibody to  IgG-2)....my husband got tested about a week ago and his test was negative (IgG less than 0.91, negative).....he says that he has never had any kind of outbreaks or anything and is accusing me of cheating on him....i have never been with anyone else besides him....i have never seen any kind of blisters on his penis, but i do recall once when he wanted me to check his anal area because he was in alot of pain and i saw what looked like a fissure, we assumed that it may have been a hemorrhoid and i put some preparation H on it....how can he have a negative test result when i started having symptoms shortly after having oral sex with him and i test positive months later??? i seriously need answers, please somebody help me!!!

I can best help you if you post your actual test results - e.g. hsv1 igg 3.2 and hsv2 igg 4.9 or whatever they are.

your oral symptoms could be herpes but odds are they aren't. sounds more like something else going on. continue to follow up on them with your regular provider to try to get to the bottom of that part. Many things can cause them from food allergies, toothpastes, chewing gum and make ups.

odds are you've never been tested for herpes before to know if you had contracted hsv2 prior to your husband.

point of care testing is a test that is a rapid test that can be done easily in the office and doesn't require a lab to run it. fast answers and usually fairly accurate but seeking out additional testing is never a bad idea to confirm your status.

hi, thanks for responding again:)

i have been with my husband for 14 years....i had 2 previous boyfriends before him from high school....my first and only unprotected sex and oral sex experiences were only with husband and absolutely no one else....if you don't mind my asking, what exactly is a "point of care test" and how is it different from any other test?

sounds like you had point of care testing that won't return with numeric results. If you need peace of mind, seek out a herpes western blot blood test to confirm your status.  did you have any partner prior to your husband ever?

your lips are not a hsv2 issue.  follow up with your provider to figure out what is going on.

thank you so much for responding...

the test that i took was a fingerstick and the results were given to me in less than 10 minutes...it did not have any numbers on them....it only showed that i was positive: immunoassay antibody to igG hsv2

i chew gum, use toothpaste, etc everyday
my lips only felt that way after performing oral sex on my husband
and once i noticed that the oral sex may have been causing my lips to feel tingly and itchy, i never did it again...and now it is very necessary that i wear medicated chapstick otherwise my lips start to burn and feel very uncomfortable even when i use regular chapstick....

if i were the carrier of this disease, how could it be possible that even if i were to have any kind of sex (orally or vaginally) with people who did not have the disease for me to have those symptoms reappear?

i do not engage in rough sex, none whatsoever...im perplexed
