herpes

About a month ago I was told that I tested positive for herpes. I have not had any breakout or symptoms of any sort. For herpes 1 the igg was 2.18 and for herpes 2 the igg was 17.80.

Does that mean I have herpes 2 and not 1? Or does it mean that I have both?

Also like a week ago I kissed a guy twice is it possible that I may have passed on the virus to him?

Also when I was told that I had it the doctor did not prescribe any medication she just said your fine you can go home.

Was that OK for her to say thatt?

Please help I'm going crazy not understand this virus.

That primarily applies to HSV2 testing. Given 60% of the population gave HSV1 readings like yours are often truly positive. Further it explains why you have no symptoms today as an adult, because you've had HSV a long time.

It is said that anything below 3.5 is considered a false positive so how could I have hsv1 if my igg was 2.18

I do not believe there is any need to retest. It is very likely you have both HSV1 and HSV2.

The majority of the population are infected with HSV1 during their youth. About half of these people have no living memory of a cold sore.

To have oral HSV1 makes sense as it often means the person has no idea when they are infected with HSV2 as their immune system is already effective against HSV.

Without cold sores present, the risk of infection is very, very low. I'm sure you have had a lot of kisses and didn't transmit the virus. Most people do not.

You do not need medication unless you have outbreaks that are severe or frequent. However daily antivirals do provide additional protection to sexual partners.

So should he get tested? because I told him I had herpes but not sure which one I had. So he worried that may have gotten it.

You could not pass it from kissing as its most likley genital not oral.
They most often give meds when a person is having an outbreak. You can never know when you got it and many people never have symtpoms

When I was told that I had herpes I was not given any medication they just sent me home.

Is that normal?

Also they told me they have no record of testing me for that, that they tested me for herpes for the first time now.

So how can I know when I was exposed to it?

Because have never displayed any sysymptoms of any sort.

No I'm sure that's how my results came back.

I kissed someone last week is there a possibility that he caught it?

As mentioned your hsv1 needs to be retested so we  cant confirm but even if you have hsv1 oral, if you did not have a lip sore the risk would be close to zero.
Your hsv2 is almost certainly genital so kissing would not be an issue.

Hi, as of now your hsv1 falls into the false positive range as any number below 3.5 would need retesting. Your hsv2 is surely positive. Are you sure you dont have the numbers reversed with the lower number for hsv2?
