high hsv 1 but low hsv 2

I just saw my test results for HSV 1 & 2.  HSV 1 IGG 55.8 and HSV 2 IGG 3.1
why is the first one so high and the second one so low?  Is it possible that the HSV 2 results could be a false positive?  I am asymptomatic and to my knowledge have never had an outbreak.   I plan on going back to the doctor soon for additional tests that I am really freaking out about the HSV 2 results.

I only know what I'd do in your shoes.

No more sex until he produces a full STD panel test including being tested for HSV1 and HSV2.

You should get the confirmation, there is insufficient evidence around whether you have HSV2.

Everything you suggest is a possibility. You have it, he has it, one or both before you got together, one infected during the relationship and so on.

My other concern is my boyfriend. We've been in a relationship for 3 years. However, there was a point one year ago where we broke up for 6 months and both of us were with other people.  the only way I'm going to get him to the doctor to get tested is too trick him somehow. I know he will not go any other way.  since we have been together for so long is it not probable that if I have it he has it also? I could have had this for years and gave it to him. He may have had it first and gave it to me or one of us got it while we were broke up.  should I somehow force him now to get tested or wait until I have the WB confirmation before we start accusing each other?

I knew what you meant :)

The biokit is not really recommended as a confirmation for a Herpeselect kit. Its accuracy doesn't exceed Herpeselect.

I'd really suggest the Westernblot at this stage. OK it costs money and takes a little time, but you'll be in no doubt.

It was herpeselect.  I'm hoping my doc has access to a biokit.  Isn't the book it fairly rapid whereas the WB will takes days/weeks?

The first thing to check is what manufacturer provided the test. Was it a Herpeselect for example? This is important to understand the ranges, which often are >1 positive for example, but do differ for some tests.

Assuming this is test such as Herpeselect then the HSV1 reading is not necessarily unusual at all. Some labs do not report anything greater than 5 or 8 for example.

The HSV2 is in the low positive range (again if Herpeselect) and issues such as cross reaction and other proteins in the blood coud be triggering the result and not true HSV2 antibodies.
