hopefully looking for answers

I had vaginal intercourse three times with another man twice in february and once in april. The last time we did not use a condom, so it's been 8 months since i was possibly exposed to any stds. I have since mended my relationship with my boyfriend (of six yrs.), and we are planning to get married. I have not had any symptoms except for a small chaffing on the outside of my vagina very near but below the opening about six weeks ago. On closer examination i believe there was a very small cut, which healed after three weeks (no bumps, ulcers, or oozing). The tissue is very thin in this area, and I'm not sure if that could account for the prolonged healing time. I wear thongs occasionally, but I cannot remember ever having problems with chaffing. Second, I've had a milky white discharge over the past few days. It is watery and has no odor. I've had similar discharge in the past, but not in this abundance (nearly constant light flow). I began using the NuvaRing about six weeks ago.

1) What is the likelihood i contracted herpes given the time it took for symptoms to appear, the mildness of the possible "outbreak," and number of possible exposures? Should i get tested? I have a tight budget, but I want to be take responsibility for my past.

2) Is my discharge indicative of an infection or disease or is it normal?

3) What is the likelihood if i am positive that i transmitted the disease to my boyfriend if we've had frequent intercourse without condoms over the last seven months? (He is aware of our situation.)

4) Lastly, if my mild chaffing was an outbreak is it reasonable to expect future outbreaks to be even milder or have I yet to deal with a herpes outbreak?

thank you for your commenst. I'm pretty certain i didn't contract anything from boyfriend. he is faithful, and we have an extremely up-front relationship. the more i think about it the less i'm concerned. to be safe i went for testing today.

bambam6287: hun you sound very young...see what your options are at a local clinic. if you were raped, you should have thorough testing for stds done to protect yourself and your loved ones (boyfriends and possible future children). counseling may help too sweetie...especially if you have trouble with you mom  understanding you situation. sorry i can't be anymore help.

It is possible for you to have herpes and not know it, some people do not even have any signs of the virus and have it for years. Just to let you know that HSV 1 about 70% of the population has HSV1 which is in the upper body mouth sours,etc... about 1 in 5 people have HSV2 which is genital herpes so if you think about it's a common virus... it's not a simple diagnosis because it's a virus...

You should get tested for STD's just to make sure, you can go to a Public Clinic in your county for the test's , most counties offer some type of STD clinics for testing, it's anonymous and they are very cheap for the test but just get tested and seen by a doctor to make sure.

It sounds to me the cut is potentially just irritation from sex. The discharge could possibly be your body adjusting to the NuvaRing. You have a foreign object in your vagina it's going to respond differently than it normally does as a result of that. That and discharge changes throughout the years. If you're of childbearing age you're more likely to have more noticable discharge.

Given the timeline you've stated between possible exposure and first "outbreak" (that's even what it is) it would seem to me more likely you contracted it from your boyfriend than the hook up from 8 months ago. But I doubt it's herpes. I would recommend talking to your gyno about the discharge. Get tested if you're that worried about it. That is the only way to put your mind at ease.

I can't really talk about what outbreaks are like cause I'm still trying to figure that out for myself....
