how likely is it to transmit hsv 2 to other parts of the body.

how likely is it to transmit hsv 2 to other parts of the body.

i found i have herpes (genital only) about 7 months ago. only had one outbreak, been taking meds daily. all fine and dandy. now i'm seeing someone. we've been hanging out for a month or so now. lots of making out, i've given him oral sex. from there, nothing to tell. i just told him about me and herpes this weekend. and we are both wondering how likely is it to infect other parts of the body? i know that everything we have done so far is safe, and can not infect him. but what if he uses his hand on me? (if there is no cuts or sores on his hands, and i am not having an outbreak) and what other ways can we pleasure each other with out sex, and with low risk?

The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource for the both of you to read. It's free to read online or print out at home. It's written by Terri Warren, our herpes expert here at medhelp.

As long as your partner's hands don't have open wounds, dry cracks or bitten cuticles, he's not likely to contract herpes there. the skin is usually too thick for the virus to easily penetrate.

You are on suppressive therapy which helps a heck of a lot too!

How were you originally diagnosed as having herpes? Do you have hsv1 or hsv2?

Also if your new partner hasn't been tested for herpes himself, he should get it done to see what his status it too.

i have hsv 2, and i was diagnosed by having a sore swabbed, and tested. (which was very painful...lol) thank you for your advice!

Just confirm that the lesion culture was indeed typed as hsv2 and not just hsv+ and assumed it had to be hsv2 because it's genital.

when planned parenthood called me back with my results, they did say i was positive for hsv2. and the person that i got this from, also came back positive for hsv2. and again, thank you for the advice. i did check out herpes handbook, and i think this will be helpful for me and the person i am now seeing.
