how to help

i just found out last night that my moms ex boyfriend gave her herpes! { that is now why he is her ex} my mom is 38 and having a really hard time getting through this. she found out in jan of 09 she stayed with him untill aug of 09 she said that he already reuind her. well in augs he left her and now she is very hurt pissed and it is messing with her mentally for the past couple of months she has done nothing but cry and drink when we asked why she just cryed harded. now that we know why we understand. my father died in 2005 and she thought her ex was a dream come true now all she thinks about is how she is going to grow old all by her self. i am 20 i have a older sister that is 22 and a younger sister that is 18 how can we help her get through this Emotionally and mentally?

First thing I recommend is telling her about terri warren's book " the good news about the bad news". It's a terrific book she recently wrote that goes into far more details than her free herpes handbook does. It's under $15 on amazon and well worth purchasing. Your mother should read it and better educate herself on herpes and how she can lower her partner's risks of contracting it from her.

I also recommend that you suggest she talk to a therapist/counselor. Sometimes it's hard to deal with losing people in our lives whether it's from death or just from a bad break up. She sounds like she's depressed and she's also using alcohol to try to cope with the whole situation so she needs to get help.

1 out of 4 women has hsv2.  It's not the end of the world and can be controlled for the most part. It's never a reason to think you'll be alone for the rest of your life and your mother sounds like she has multiple issues she needs help dealing with. It's great that you and your sisters are there to support her as she goes thru these difficulties in her life :)
