hsv-1 vs hsv-2 initial symptoms

About two years ago, I contracted hsv-1 (or so I think) I had initial symptoms of muscle soreness, fatigue, chills, and mouth sores....along with a cold sore. I went into student health at my undergrad and received medication to help me recover from the symptoms faster. After that I had two more cold sores that were much smaller than the initial outbreak. I know this sounds very common:).... However, I was wondering what is the likelihood that I contracted hsv-2 and since the initial entry point was my mouth the outbreak occurred there? I am asking because I dont know how common it is to become so sick from an initial exposure to a cold sore as an adult.  I have never had any genital out breaks that I know of...and I have not had a cold sore in over year.... thanks so much for reading!

hsv2 doesn't often occur orally. It can, but it usually doesn't. It would also be unusual for it to reoccur that often.

If you really want to know your hsv2 status - get yourself a type specific herpes igg blood test and see.
