hsv1 compared to hsv2 - Red spot inch and half above pubic region

Hello. I am a 21 year old male curious about the symptoms of genital herpes.

I have had a cold sore on my lip before. Another thing worth noting is that I have had 3 sexual partners in my life (very active with the first 4 years ago). I always where a condom but there have definitely been times where I have been fully 'exposed' on accident for whatever reason before the condom was on. I have not had sex in about a year.

My question is, does a cold sore around the genitals act and look like a cold sore on the lip? I have recently noticed a red spot about an inch and a half above the shaft of my penis with a hair growing out of it. It looks like a mild pimple or ingrown hair. There may be another spot or two (with hair in the middle) about a centimeter away from the most noticeable one, but the red is very feint and it's hard to say what is a spot and what is just a hair follicle. It is also hard to tell if there is any sensitivity or pain. If I poke it, It seems slightly tender.

There seems to be a lot on the internet saying that genital herpes goes unnoticed, and the symptoms can be very mild. If this is hsv2, wouldn't it go through the normal cold sore stages that I saw on my lip? - bead like blisters clustered together that crust and scab over, even if on a very small scale? If hsv2 manifested itself as a rash of bumps, wouldn't each blister still act like a blister and pop and crust over? - or is it possible that they could just act like ingrown hairs

This incident has been just a red spot for about a day and is not acting like what was on my lip (which was evolving within hours). It looks like the type of mild bacterial infection I might find on my beard. I have bad anxiety about these things  and when I get back home (currently on vacation) I plan to get whatever STD test I can for hsv2.

I apologize if this is a somewhat 'soft' dilemma. The problem is that hsv2 seems like it can be anything - a cut, a pimple, a rash, an itch - where on the lip it is obvious, at least for a person like me who actually has symptoms.

The main question is:
would hsv2 most of the time act a lot like hsv1, or could anything in the pubic region a symptom? Thank you!

Hello johnyboy92 - you are correct: genital herpes can present in a number of ways. Sometimes mine look like papercuts, sometimes like hives. They do not always look like the typical blisters.

What I suggest is that the very next time a fresh one of these presents, go and get it swabbed as soon as possible, within a day or two at most, otherwise you risk a false negative. A positive swab is about as definitive as you can get.

Hi, herpes sores are not red spots but clear liquid filled blister type sores both hsv1 and 2.
