My situation is a bit confusing and I'd like to have some clarifications since my doctor hasn't been very helpful in answering.
I was diagnosed with genital herpes a month ago just by visual
examination and was given a viral culture test which soon came up negative. After learning about this, I had my partner of a year get tested and had negative results. After learning this, I came to the conclusion that i must have contracted/been infected with hsv 2 from a prior partner. The thing that puzzles me was that the last time I had intercourse
with him was about 16 months ago and I was wondering why it took this long for symptoms to show up. I also want to know whether or not I should get the igg blood test now and that if its possible the antibodies for the virus could already be present in my blood?
Sometimes herpes can stay dormant for a long time & then surface. Something may trigger an outbreak all of a sudden. Grace should be able to expand on this for you because this perplexes me, also.
Yes, you can take an IgG blood test now. If you contracted it from your partner 16 months ago, it should be detectable in your blood. What kind of test did you partner have done?
I also realized I made tons of errors in my question. I meant to ask whether the igg blood test would be reliable at this time. I also forgot to mention that I did get my blood test as well and my results came up as...
HSV 1 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB 0.08
HSV 2 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB 0.19
Should I then be in there clear?
I should also add that during the time I first went in and was diagnosed, the doctor had to get a second opinion on the sores i had during a visual
examination can be incorrect. Since your culture, IgG test & your partner's IgG test is negative, it is very unlikely that you have HSV at this time. If you get more symptoms, be seen promptly to get them swabbed/evaluated.
diagnosis of herpes is wrong 1/3 of the time. at this point make sure that your partner had type specific herpes igg blood testing done. if he's negative for hsv1 and hsv2 either you recently contracted hsv1 from your current partner and your lesion culture was done too late to pick up on it and his blood test isn't reflecting his infection ( even the best herpes blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections ) or you don't actually have genital herpes.
at this point all you can do is both of you repeat your blood tests in a few months just to err on the side of caution and should you get a return of genital symptoms, be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture and typing again.
did they also test you for yeast and bacterial vaginal
