igg test and HSV I/II combination

igg test and HSV I/II combination

I am totally confused with these test. First i took HSV 1 &2 IGG Herpeselect AB HSV 1 results 3.95 H and  HSV 2 results were >5.00 H.  After doing research through the interenet, I read that these can be a "false" positive.  I can also mean that you had the chicken pox in the past, so it will show up as a positive. They suggested to do a IgM 1 & 2, results were: Negative   1.09
Now I am reading on this site, that IgM is not a good test to take since it does not seperate.  My question is this, since I have had no outbreaks, only cold soar..1 at a time no more that 1 inside the mouth. I been with my husband for 21 years.  I confronted him, so he is going to go for testing to see.  I never saw him with an outbreak. How do I know it is actually herpies (herpes) and not a false reading? What other test is there to prove that I do not have it.  I feel that the doctor just says, it shows that you have it so you do. But it could be the chicken pox that I had as a child.

What other test can you recommend?

Thank you

you've received very poor advice in the past evidently.

your hsv2 igg will not be positive due to a history of chicken pox. different viruses and the newer type specific herpes igg blood tests don't get cross reactivity from other herpes viruses like the older, non-type specific tests do.

the herpes igm blood test is a greatly flawed blood test and you should've never had it done.

your hsv1 is +. You have a history of cold sores so you knew that even before you got testing done.

your hsv2 igg is also +. It's above the typical false positive range and we don't recommend confirmatory testing for a result over 5.   You really have no reason to doubt your hsv2 status either.

Hubby getting tested is also a good idea. once you know his status, you can discuss together if you want to change anything about your sex life or not as far as to reduce transmission of hsv2 to him.

Thank you so much for your comment.  But so you don't think it is a false reading? The only reason is because I never had the slightest symptoms. I think my husband was unfaithful to me that is why I got myself tested. I believe he gave it to me. He will not admit it to me that is why he is going to get tested. If it shows up negative, i am assuming it was the chicken pox since I never been unfaithful.

As Grace stated, an IgG strictly looks for HSV antibodies, not chicken pox (herpes zoster). You need to put chicken pox out of the equation here. You tested positive for both HSV1 and HSV2 based on your IgG blood test.

Indeed an IgM does pick up other viruses such as chicken pox, hence why it's a flawed test for herpes.

This also doesn't mean your husband being unfaithful gave it to you. Did he or you have any sexual partners prior to you being married? If so, and neither of you were tested prior to this, no way of knowing when you acquired it, or even if it came from him. As Grace said, once he gets tested (be sure it's an IgG type specific blood test), then you can go from there.
