interpreting a herpes test in japan

I just got a test result and I'd like to see if anyone can tell what test was used to get this, and how reliable this test might be. I was tested positive for HSV-1 in the US before but when I got tested in Japan I tested positive for both HSV-1 and HSV-2. It's unclear what test was used but the scores are as follows:

HSV-1: 16
HSV-2: 8

Both say that a score above 4 is positive, and the doctor explained to me that the count goes in powers of two, so 8 is only 1 over 4 and 16 is next after 8, etc. He said that people with active outbreaks run as high as 256.

I've searched online but can't find any references to a Herpes test that provides results this way. Does anyone have any idea what test was used and how accurate it might be? I'm concerned that since the HSV-2 score is very low it might be as a result of an inaccurate test not being able to distinguish properly between the two strains. Some references I found (from admittedly a few years ago) seemed to point to the fact that Japan still uses old inaccurate tests for herpes.

Any help appreciated!

I'm sorry but at this point, nothing else I can do to help you. I'm pretty sure you didn't have a herpeselect or captia test done and I'm really not sure what the main brand of test it is that they use in japan.  The reporting scale is not one I'm familiar with.

If you can find a support group online in japan with someone knowledgeable about the herpes testing used in your area, they might be able to help you more.

Best of luck in finding someone more familiar with the testing you had done in your area!

All it says on the sheet is "Herpes Simplex 1 NT" and "Herpes Simplex 2 NT". I'm not sure what the NT means, perhaps "neutralizing test"? My hope is someone is able to identify this test based on the power of 2 score sequence (1,2,4,8,16,32,..). The clinic I took it at won't tell me any more information over the phone :/
