is this right???

first, i'm 13 weeks pregnant, and with my pregnancy has come a lot of vaginal dryness... and i'm suffering from my hormones making me horny all the time... so me and my boyfriend had some serious amounts of sex in a 2 day span, and we both became red and in pain and a few bumps... it hurt me more than him (lucky me) but we both went to our doctors, his doctor said it doesnt look like herpes to him at all, just lay off the sex.

i go to a clinic because its covered by my medicaid. the doctor i saw that day almost made me cry. "idk how you could let yourself get this bad, its so irritated... i think you have herpes." swabs the 'sores' as she called them, had them sent to see if i had herpes. then she writes me a prescription, tells me it'll only be $10, i need to start taking it because of the herpes... the herpes we're not conclusive i have yet.

i go to fill the prescription, turns out is a $76 and change medication. i cant afford it in the least so i didnt get it. i went back to the clinic today expecting to get my results... they tell me nothing about it. only ask if i am taking the medication for my herpes... WHAT?!?!? apparently this doctor wrote on my chart that i have it. not that i'm being tested for it. i refuse to take meds for something that idk if i have... especially since i'm pregnant.

i really want a second opinion. because i looked up what herpes looks like... mine looked nothing like it... my irritation didnt last one third of the time its said an outbreak lasts... but the doctor had it made up in her mind that i have it, and nothing can change her mind.

does this sound right to anyone? or does it sound impractical? please give me your opinion.

actually it's perfectly safe to treat herpes during pregnancy. We recommend treating it when there's a possibility of it being a newly acquired infection during pregnancy because it keeps you in less pain and you don't want to risk a miscarriage due to dehydration or fetal infection with the virus. Your provider prescribing the antivirals for you based on a visual diagnosis was perfectly acceptable and the best mode of treatment for you.  no definite harm to you or the baby from not treating it but it would've been best all around if you had.  I wish you had found this forum and talked about this the day you were seen so I could've advised you on this then.

when you found out what they prescribed wasn't as cheap as they thought, you should've asked the pharmacist to call the clinic for something cheaper. they will do that for you. Acyclovir is available for $4 with a prescription at walmart.

At this point , call the clinic and ask them if your herpes lesion culture is back ( I hope they did one on you).  also you and your bf should look into getting type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what. confirming your herpes status at this point in your pregnancy is very important so that you and your obgyn can decide what precautions to take nearer to the time of delivery.

Unfortunately there are lousy doctors out there, and there always will be.
And I am sorry you were treated this way.

Call the clinic up and ask that you want to know about your results for herpes tests.
If they never tested you, I recommoned going back and demand a herpes test.

The test should be: igG HSV-2 and igG HSV-1.
