just diagnosed with genital HSV-1

I am 27 year old male, 10 sexual partners in my life, never had a STD. I've been with the same girl for about 6 months and we only have unprotected vaginal sex - we have never had oral. We talked about our STD history before having sex and we both have never had any symptoms. She lives in a different city so we don't see each other very often. The last time we had sex was 2.5 weeks ago. Two days after that I noticed a few red bumps on my genital region. After a few more days there were about 10 of them and they started to itch/burn. I finally got in to see my doctor 7 days after the first day of symptoms and she performed a swab test that came back positive for HSV-1.

I assume I got it from her from genital-genital contact and she didn't know that she had it. I was prescribed 800 acyclovir twice daily and the sores are all healed now. I haven't told her about any of this yet but I'll be seeing her this weekend where hopefully I can discuss this with her. I have found a lot of info on these boards but I am still confused about a few things. Can I spread HSV-1 genital-oral to future sex partners? Should I start suppressive treatment to prevent outbreaks or wait to see if there is another one? Thanks for your time and help.

typically hsv1 genitally doesn't shed very often or reoccur very often. Most folks don't get enough "bang for their buck" from suppressive therapy for it.

You could transmit your genital hsv1 to a partner's oral area if they perform oral on you but the risk is still really low since hsv1genitally tends not to shed very often.
