just tested positive

by bklyn0630, Nov 21, 2008 10:11AM
i just recently found out that i have the antibodies for hsv 1 and 2. i know all about type 1 cause i've had it most my life.  my boyfriend admitted to cheating on me and i've been really upset. niether one of us have ever had any signs of having any outbreak or and soreness.  nothing.  its been about a month since finding out and i'm so scared that one day i'm going to see something .
should i get asked to get tested again or is this normal not to have any symptoms?

is there any way i can tell how long i've had this?

So you found because you were given a blood test? Was it a herpes IgG blood test? Iif so do you know what the nuneric test results were from your test? If you can get theim and post them on the board grace will be able to halp you further. it will read something like this. HSV 1 igg is 2.20 and HSV 2 igg is 3.80 or what ever it says and post them.

You can have herpes and have no symptoms and no outbreaks.

Has you bf been given the IgG blood test to know what his status is? It would be good if h has not had it yet to get tested as well.

i have to find out from my dr what the numbers are cause all i was told over the phone was that i tested positive for the antibodies. i haven't been back to the dr yet since because i has really hit me hard. not only did i find out i got this, i found out my boyfriend has cheated on me.  he has to be the one who gave it to me cause i've been with him over 9 years. i have a child so i've been tested before and it was negative.
there was a time when we broke up and i had sex with 1 person but i used protection, a condom so the odds are, i got them from my boyfriend.
my bf is being stupid about it.  first he is blaming me for this.  even though i know i haven't been with no one he still says its my fault cause he don't wanna admit to what he has done.
i plan to go to the dr soon cause i wanna know everything i need to know about this. will it affect me getting pregnant

When you call the Doctor confirm what type of test he used as that is really important and if if is an IgG blood test then ask for the figures like I advised. If it is an IgM b;ppd test this not an accurate test to assess if you have herpes and should have not been ordered. So if an IgG then get the numbers and post them for "grace" to review.

In reagard to youf bf try not to play the blame game with him. If in fact you have herpes then blaming each other will not be helpful to the relationship.  Just sit down with him calmly and advise him that he needs to get a Type Specific herpes IgG blood test for HSV 1 and HSV 2. if he has never gotton one yet so that he and you will know what his status is.

Once he gets tested get him to ask for his numeric test results just like I had outlined to you and post them so  then "grace" can confirm for you what his status is as well.

I am sure it is really hard to find out that he cheated on you and we will help you to work through this.

Hang in there it will all work out.
