Thanks Grace for all the help
Certainly moving forward .
Thanks again
I'd certainly put the herpes to rest.
irritation from oral sex isn't unusual. same as what is normal bacteria in the mouth area, isn't so normal in the urogenital tract. often it clears up on its own .
time to move forward :)
Dear Grace
I don't know how to express my feelings at this moment
Got my self retested
Results
Hsv 1 - Igg - 0.17
Igm - 0.25
Hsv 2 - Igg - 0.18
Igm - 0.49
Both negative and both low numbers
Both test (the latest one and the one I had a month ago ) were Serum Enzyme Immuo Assay .And were done at the same reputed testing centre.
Hopefully this will be last post and last set of questions but before I ask them , I must first congratulate and thank this forum and specially people such as yourself, Vance and all the doctors. This forum has acted as a friend, guide and saviour.
Questions
1) Can I put the Herpes Chapter to bed ?
2) My initial treatment was based on the fact that I had dysuria like symptoms a month after n brief unprotected oral exposure from a CSW . The doc said that there might be a remote chance of NGU. The dysuria symptoms cleared in 3 to 4 days but I started having pain and discomfort in my testicles. The doc said that this could be due to anxiety and the regrettable sexual exposure. The incidental finding was the minimal hydrocele after a scrotum ultrasound.
I was given 2 weeks of doxcy twice a day. I never had any discharge whatsoever and had no WBC in my Urine (initial stream - first thing in the morning) I have had now 4 urine test and no wbc in any.
All other test namely
CBS with ESR
HIV
Liver Function
Syphilis
Chlamydia
Were normal ( did not test for Gono as I mentioned )
COULD THIS MEAN THAT I NEVER HAD ANYTHING ?
Also is there anything else that I need to do ?
Regards
none at all.
also for your herpes testing - you could say you were being responsible and had full std testing just for peace of mind since you were going to start working on a family soon too. of course if you haven't already, better get it all done to have something to show to your wife if she asks.
Thanks Grace Appreciate it.
Does Herpes and Hydrocele have any connection ?
Regards
you could always go with the ole my doctor went to a conference and evidently now is testing everyone for herpes. you didn't even know you were being tested with your cholesterol screening and were you surprised to find out you were hsv1+ since you've never had a cold sore. I certainly wouldn't think you contracted hsv1 genitally from the encounter in question since you didn't have obvious lesions within a short time afterwards. far more likely this is a hsv1 oral infection you've had and never knew it.
your wife should have her symptoms checked out to get a better idea of what is going on.
Dear Grace,
I have gone through all relevant information available on the mentioned site and many others.
I have not yet disclosed my result of being HSV 1 positive as this will lead to a lot of trauma and anxiety for her also. And she has never been tested
But I am still remain in a mess .
As mentioned earlier I have had no obvious symptoms (sores etc ) neither on the mouth or genitals .
1) Can I presume that my HSV 1 is oral ?
2) I notice a two small bums at my wife's pubic area (close to each other) not at the vagina though ? this was the first time I noticed something like this and got scared that I might have given her the same. is it possible as I don't have any symptoms ?She mentioned that there was some pain initially but not any now and .
3) my exposure is 4 months old (unprotected oral once) and worst case scenario is I got HSV 1 from this and passed it on to my wife , myself remaining asymptomatic and she shows the first outbreak after 3 months ?
is this possible?
4) my igg came positive exactly after 2.5 months of the exposure (time of testing ) and the Igm came negative . what is a probability of this being old infection ?
5) we are planning to start a family and I don't know what is is the best way forward . to disclose and let her be a part of all his trauma or keep quite.
Kindly help
Regards
http://www.ashastd.org/std-sti-works/Herpes/oral-herpes.html has terrific info on hsv1 orally for more reading.
has your wife ever been tested for herpes? odds are she hasn't been.
Thanks Grace,
Now that I know I am hsv 1 positive , and most probably asymptomatic . What should I do ?
Can I pass this to my wife ? and children ?
Regards
igm testing for herpes is inaccurate. we currently don't recommend its use in adults. it has a high false positive rate as well as a decent false negative rate too.
as I said previously, no way to know when you contracted it. most people who have hsv1 orally, don't get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected.
Thanks for the info ,
Just a few more questions,
the igm was negative (test done after 10 weeks after exposure ) does this mean that I had Hsv 1 previously ?
And on the contrary if the recent exposure (3 months old) caused the HSv1 positive, should I have had shown symptoms by now ?
Regards
most adults have hsv1 orally. most of them don't get obvious cold sores to know it. no way to know if you've had hsv1 since you were a small child, got it from the first person you ever kissed, your wife or your latest partner. 1 out of every 3 of us picks it up before we start public school it's so common!
no reason to think you had a false positive hsv1 igg result. you are well over the typical false positive values.
grace
that hsv1 positive shouldn't come to a shock, as most people end up getting hsv-1 by the time they are adults anyway.
seems very unlikely that high positive is a false positive.
if you're negative for hsv2 after 3 months, chances are that result won't change if you test again at 4 months.
i think you can stop worrying and just live your life now
