mis diagnosed

I recently went to the doctor to get a test for a painful ulcer in the perineal area. It is like an extra fold of skin but it hurts. She took one look and said she is 99% positive its hsv. She said I got it recently so from my recent partner. I haven't changed partners in a long time as we are dating and If he is tested negative is it possible for me to be positive? It would be considered the first outbreak so she said I contracted it up to 10 days ago. Is it possible I could be mis diagnosed or I could have contracted it earlier? I won't get the culture back for a week but they also did a blood test. It seemed like she didn't even care about the emotional side of the appt.

about 1/2 of all presumed newly acquired infections are actually just the first obvious recurrence of a prior infection.

at this point your partner will also need type specific herpes igg blood testing done to see what his status is. once you get your own test results back, you'll both have better answers.

yes indeed you could have herpes and your partner doesn't.
