Most adults have hsv1 orally and very few of us make it to the old folks home without hsv1 orally. If he ever notices obvious cold sores he of course should avoid kissing you until they are gone. When he's sick with a cold, he should avoid kissing you ( even if you started it! ) just in case he's actively shedding the virus then too ( hence the name cold sores/fever blisters ) just to err on the side of caution. You two can discuss if you feel barrier protection for when he performs oral sex on you is something you want to do or not. It's totally your choice.

Hey thank you so much for clearing this up. He just wanted to get a blood test and see if there's anything wrong with him. I get tested regularly and do not have HSV1 or 2. He or I haven't seen any cold sores. Usually, cold sores would be oral correct? However, if he has HSV1 then he can give it to me by kissing me and giving me oral sex?
Nope, your bf is correct. I've explain each result underneath it for you :)
HSV 1/2 combined Ab, IgM 1.14
Igm is a total waste of time and should've never been drawn on him in the first place. totally disregard this result.
HSV 1/2 Combin Ab SCRN, IgG 22.40
this also was a total waste of time - it's a combined herpes test which isn't type specific - it only looks for the presence of hsv antibodies - his is + which means that he has at least 1 type of hsv in his body. Not a helpful test and no longer recommended either.
HSV1 Glycoprotein Ab IgG 6.75
This is the type specific herpes igg blood test for hsv1. It's +. Most adults have hsv1 but not all get cold sores to know it.
HSV2 Glycoprotein Ab IgG 0.08
His hsv2 is negative.
was there something that prompted your man to get tested for herpes? Can he recall cold sores at all? Can you recall cold sores in yourself? were you tested for herpes too to know your own status?
