my girlfriend has HSV 1, but my doctor refuses to test me.

my girlfriend tested positive for HSV1 and as soon as I realized this I called my doctor and left him a message, an RN called me back and told me the doctor doesn't want to test and that he consulted with the chief of medicine and they both agreed that it wont be necessary to test me unless I develop a symptom so they can culture it and test that way . I am incredibly worried and find it impossible to believe that they dont want to test me and I am wondering if this is even legal ? ( my primary care provider is kaiser permanente ) VERY well known institution.

I don't know where you live but here in the UK a Doctor would not refuse a test if it was requested by his/her patient they may not do it themselves but would certainly refer their patient to an STD/GUM Clinic but even that is doubtful they would simply either draw the blood there and then or swab the lesion I cannot comprehend why some Doctors are still refusing to accept that this is a condition that people have a right to learn about and be properly treated for the problems is that many see it as no big deal I'm sure they wouldn't think that way if they caught it themselves.You must get tested so go to a walk in STD/GUM Clinic they will not refuse to test you ..... I find it totally ridiculous that a Doctor wouldn't do it for you ......

Herpes testing has been long known to come back with false positives. The best time during the cycle to get tested is during an outbreak while the blisters are still intact. Other testing is just not solid enough to be trusted all the way.
