my story... sad but true

I am hoping this is not deleted as I want to share my situation in hopes of helping others...

exposure... back in early March of this year I had a condom protected vaginal exposure which lasted about 30 seconds with an ex gf...
prior to this encounter I had on multiple occasions tested negative for hsv...

symptoms... beginning 2 mos after exposure everything ranging from  flu-like symptoms, thrush, sore throat, etc. to penis redness and irritation (which comes and goes) and daily nausea which continues to this day... had some blisters at the base of my penis for a week and then they disappeared...

tests... at 10 weeks had full panel all negative including hsv.. at 17 weeks herpeselect igg negative... at at 20 weeks and 24 weeks same test both positive...

other... before I realized fully that I had hsv2 I had been examining myself daily... at some point I remember doing it and my 3 yr old daughter being brought in with a horrible diaper mess, etc... before I thought about it I was cleaning her up and realized I hadn't washed my hands... gross I know but it happens... a month later she broke out with a severe rash for a couple weeks and had a high fever for a couple days... also had pink eye... eventually it cleared up and she just had lingering outbreaks on her arms and legs apparently from autoinoculation which still continue... last week she had a puffy eyelid and we took her to the doctor... after visual exam did swab off ob on arm and later confirmed she had hsv2... presumably from my poor hygiene...
I would mention also that my daughter is never out of the care of either my wife or I...

before we realized what was happening to her my 16 yr old daughter who carries her around all the time came up with some odd outbreaks on her arms... doc did visual exam thought look suspicious but no swab for whatever reason but ordered a blood test for 8 weeks out... awaiting that... she has not been sick really but generally more tired than usual...

my point here is to caution that while my situation may not be the rule it can happen...
low to no risk exposture...
testing negative at 4 mos then testing positive later...
transmitting via fingers and NOT from molestation...
possiblely transferring it to a non-membrane area like the arm...
and atypical symptoms...

the reality is that hsv is kind of its own animal and it's not always cut and dry on symptoms, testing and transmission, etc...

just be aware and be careful...

This conversation is no longer productive, and many details are missing.  A test result of "positive" isn't helpful in determining whether you do or do not have HSV-2 - the type of test and the values are important as well.  If you are able to obtain these from your testing facility, you are welcome to return and post again.

I understand the difference between chicken pox and hsv2 and I'm quite sure my gp does as well... she was diagnosed with hsv2 and had clear and obvious symptoms of it...
I'm sorry about the studies you've read but EVERY reputable medical  website out there says while rare transmission via fingers is possible... even on medhelp they advise washing hands after touching an area "just in case" and then say "but it's not possible"...
and hsv CAN be transmitted even though a Condon is used...
I have better things to do with my life than most false stories on medhelp... I came here to share what happened in my life to help others and to encourage them to be cateful...

When reading this, at first I fell into a deep maniacal anxiety. And then I realized that everything being said in the post goes against every study that I've read about herpes. The points fleetwood makes are very true, everything stated is very unlikely, the chances and rarity of such an occurrence is very very unlikely.

mcjordan, did you know that everyone has herpes? The herpes I am talking about is herpes zoster, not herpes simplex. Herpes Zoster is also known as chickenpox. Perhaps your doctor didn't explain this properly and might have used the medical term "herpes zoster" and you misheard it as simply herpes?

bottom line is my story is true... you can cast dispersion on it... delete it... or whatever... I have no control over that...
I am sorry for anything I may have posted in the past or even now that may be disrespectful... I do not intend to be...
I am heartbroken... my story is exactly as I have shared it... and I came here for help and to help others...

nothing you state here negats what I shared tonight...
fact... I have no evidence she did have hsv but I have no evidence she didn't...
fact... you can contract hsv even with Condon protected sex... to teach otherwise is not factual...
fact... there are no textbook time frames for hsv symptoms... some take days, weeks, months, and some years... (cdc)
fact... I stated previously I did have some blisters at the base of my penis and an outbreak on the shaft doesn't always have lesions... even Grace has stated that...
fact... I had the herpeselect igg type specific at 20 and 24 weeks... both positive... Quest doesn't give a specific number on the results just positive above a value point...
fact... even the cdc states that while rare it can still be transferred via fingers... even without whitlow...
fact... I never stated it took over a month for my daughters symptoms and I still don't know the true status of my other daughter...

all my other posts were while I was still in limbo... once I got confirmation I wanted to come here and share my story and help...

I have no idea why you have come here. You have done it several times with increasing incredularity. Let us go through the facts so readers can form their own judgments:
- You have no evidence this partner has HSV-2 and you had condom prortected sex
- You state it took 2 months for symptoms to appear, this would be exceptionally rare
- You have had no herpetic lesions
- You state negative testing at 17 weeks for HSV2.
- This is then alledgedly positve at 20 and 24 weeks, yet you have not provided any details of the tests or results. This would be exceptionally rare and more likely a false positive.
- You state that by touching alone and without lesions this transferred to your daughter, this would be exceptionally rare if even possible
- Again it took over a month for your daughter to show symptoms, this would be exceptionally rare.
- Somehow again through touching your older daughter contracts it. This is extremely rare.

I just do not believe it, this is billions to one chance. It was last time and the embellishments keep coming.

I already stated the tests and results in my very first post... reread what I wrote... I'm not going to continue to restate it so you can call me a liar... I didn't come here to argue or disparage medhelp... I came here hurting over my family situation and wanting to share it and help others... for you to continue to assert that the only way a child can contract hsv is through child molestation is not helpful and indeed hurtful to other parents who are in the same situation and need help...

There is still no credibility in the story, How have you been confirmed with HSV2, what testing and what results? How have the children been diagnosed with HSV2?

Although it is a bit late now to establish that crediblity. You're better off assembling a through case study with medical oversight than this ramble.

I know soap and water kills the virus but i've never read anything about diaper wipes doing it...

apparently... I use baby wipes also but I'm sure there is some skin contact... rubbing on diaper cream, etc,... I know it's rare and it shouldn't happen but it did... my wife does not have it because we haven't been together since my exposure and my daughter is only in our care so she had to get it from me... horrible... if you search different "mommy" type blogs you will find it does happen... not just through genital/genital contact...
my exposure was brief and very little skin contact but I got it...
I think we underestimate the hsv... I know I did...

So are you telling me you had contacted your own atypical shedding and transferred it to your hand and then to your daughter? Even when I would change my daughters diaper I never had skin to skin contact with her genitals. Baby wipes only?

my guess is if situations like mine we're more welcome on medhelp you would probably find I am not alone...

my story is true... I have been diagnosed with hsv2 and so has my daughter... I came here for help and to help others not argue... every symptom I described is accurate for hsv and not chicken pox... I know you're trying to protect the philosophy of medhelp and I understand that... but it doesn't make me a liar because my situation doesn't match that philosophy...

No one is suggesting the story isn't true. It is just the fanciful conclusion.

It has not been established that HSV2 is even present. Your blood test is negative and the swabs are negative!

There is no HSV2 here.

Chicken pox is 1,000 times more plausible as an explanation than HSV2 not to mention many other skin issues.

No problem with your story, but golly gosh, what has all this got to do with HSV2?

Please find out what it is and post the stoy in the correct forum.

Fleetwood my daughter has just cleared up from a sore throat and pink eye and 100 degree fever. She is 4. Also last week she cad a cut an inch off the side of her mouth.. But I thought the dog or cat scratched her.. And a different cut on her upper lip a month ago we also thought was the cat.. And maybe 2 months ago she had random bumps on ker cheeks under her eye but my gf said mosquitoes?

Have we been making excuses for hsv1 I must have gave her?

why would I make this up... my heart is broken... I came here to help folks and encourage them to be careful... my story is true...

it was not chicken pox... it started in the boxer shorts area front and back... fever is a symptom... and yes a puffy eyelid can be a symptom of autoinoculation... I took my children to the doctor and this was the outcome... my test results were from doctor ordered blood draws through quest diagnostics... nothing I am sharing is false...

my goal was to help others by sharing what happened to me and my family and encourage folks to be careful...
not cast dispersion on medhelp...
even on here I have read more times than I can count that you CAN NOT pass hsv on via hands/diaper changes  or sores outside of genital area to others skin but wash your hands and keep area covered just in case...

These are not symptoms of HSV2, no. HSV2 will not autoinnoculate in the way you describe.

Plus you continue to avoid the facts that there is no evidence that HSV2 is even present, which it is not.

As you can see, people are reading this and being concerned yet it all remains fact free. This sounds just like chicken pox!

As I said, take control as to what is actually aflicting your family instead of this.

nothing I shared was false... I'm sorry you think it is ridiculous but it doesn't change reality...
my 3 yr olds symptoms amounted to blisters/rashes, fever, blisters from autoinoculation on arms and legs from scratching the sores, puffy eyelid, etc...
not hsv symptoms?
a swab was taken of my 3 yr old but not the 16 yr old... not sure why... the investigation amounted to an interview... apparently this isn't the only case they have seen like this... not every "expert" believes it can only be passed to a child through molestation...
it doesn't fit the typical advice given here so it is rejected as rank paranoia...
I wish this wasn't happening... I would rather be guilty of all your accusations Fleetwood than have this virus infect my family...
I am devastated by all of this...

I am sorry but this is ridiculous.

You do not have HSV2, hence you can not spread it.

HSV2 does present the way you describe for the children.

Why wasn't a swab taken? That would be true neglect by a doctor and leave him subject to a lawsuit. You need to this to ensure proper treatment is given. If HSV2 was detected, what was the outcome of the child services investigation? Precisely!

Readers do not need to share in this rank paranoia around self diagnosis that wouldn't do justice to a witchdoctor.

Lord above man, get a grip and find out what is really going on with your children.

the doc didn't recommend a blood test because of her age and was confident in visual exam and swab... said would order blood test at later date...

while I certainly think there is a value in reassuring folks we also have to be careful not to draw such strict lines that we give people false hope...
I am obviously devastated about my daughter(s) and was even reluctant about posting for fear of being labeled a child molester... God as my witness I would never intentionally harm my child especially in such a vile way...
I think the virus is much easier to transmit than what we believe and not as predictable as we'd like it to be...
