new question

Hi Grace.. I got my herpes tests back. HSV 1 pos, and HCV 2 neg. If you remember my boyfriend is pos for both. Im not sure i understand... if they just say you have hsv 1 or 2, how do you know if it is oral or genital if they can be either??

Now, I wonder if we use condoms for intercourse and not for oral, what are the risks? He is on suppressive therapy.

Thanks

it's easiest if you just keep adding to your original post instead of making a new one each time - thanks!

odds are your hsv1 is oral. since your bf also has hsv1, this isn't an issue in this relationsihp.

if he takes daily suppressive therapy with valtrex ( I know he's on acyclovir but we only have study results with valtrex so I have to use that as my example ), you abstain from sex anytime he has genital symptoms and you also use condoms, you are 97-98% likely each year NOT to contract hsv2 from him.

What would the risks be either way for oral sex without condoms? Can he give me his hsv2 from oral whether I am receiving or giving it? Can he give me hsv1 genitally through oral?

Thank you

if you perform oral on his you do risk contracting hsv2 orally but overall that risk is low. His being on suppressive therapy means that he's overall shedding the virus less often so the risk of contracting it from any sex act is lower.

You aren't likely to contract hsv1 genitally since you already have it orally.

Is there any way to know if they just say you  have hsv1 or hsv2.. whether it is oral or genital? I know each has its favored site, but how do you know if its the reverse?

Thanks

not many folks have hsv2 orally. You don't have a history of symptoms in either location so odds are your hsv1 is oral.

Im sorry cause I know you must hear the same questions constantly. My mind wiggy thinking... okay, he does oral on me and has hsv2, then I get it orally, give it to him orally, and he does oral on me and I get it genitally.. is this possible or crazy thinking?

Weve been going out well over 2 months and not sex (intercourse) maybe we should just go for some record. Seriously,  care about him alot and have never had to deal with this before.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Ok, I think I said that wrong.... I meant if I do oral on him (has hsv2 ) then I get it in my mouth... kiss him and he gets it in his mouth... then does oral on me and I get it genitally??

crazy thinking - he's not going to get hsv2 orally from you.

You can get hsv2 genitally from having sex with him.

You can get hsv2 orally from performing oral sex on him.

He already has hsv2 so he won't get it in a new area.

You both already have hsv1 ( presumably orally for both of you ).

so there is no way to know if his hpv2 is oral or genital, likely genital but no guarantees. Cant hsv2 be spread from mouth to mouth?

My boyfriend and i have talked and talked. He has no problem using condoms for reg sex, and doesnt care if he doesnt get oral (atleast thats what he says) but is totally freaked out about not doing oral on me without a barrier, though he understands. Im afraid  our relaitonship may be doomed, and I really care!!

any suggestions or advice????
