partner called me was told he broke out and went for testing results positive.   I went for blood and cluture test because 2 wks after i broke out with a rash.  Went to my gyn and she to a cluture test and it came negative together with my blood.   After 3 wks i took another blood test and it came positive 1.10.  At the end of sept i will be taking my last blood test so i would know for sure.   My imagination or at lease i think so is running wild.  I keep on feeling things going on down there but see nothing.

Wait at least 4 months after the last time you had had sex prior to your rash and get a herpes WB blood test to confirm your status.

This happen July 17 so i guess blood test should be around november.  I have prescription for hsv 2 igg/igm if im reading it correct.   Is this test ok...

no need for the igm to be done. it's a poor test in general for herpes and shouldn't be ordered on adults.  http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/248394

Since you've had low positives, the herpes WB is the better test for you to get at this point though a herpes biokit would also be ok at that point to see what your hsv2 status is.

Hi Grace

Can my gyn give me a prescription for the WB test or how could i get the test.  I still have a prescription for a IGG test.  Should I still take that test or wait to take the WB.

I seems like I get very irritated after I have sex with a condom.  Is it that I'm having a break out..  This is all so new to me.. I'm not sure whats happening to me.   I'm ok except when I have sex and I think it may be a breakout and I run and take my pill.

grace I woke up this morning 9/13 and notice red spots on my arms. 3 on my left and 1 on my right.   Is this because i have Herpes?

spots on the arms is not going to be related to genital herpes if you have genital herpes.  


don't bother with the igg/igm test - just get the WB in november.

Are you still with this partner? how were they diagnosed as having genital herpes? Do they have hsv1 or hsv2?  If you are together, what precautions are you taking?

No, I not with this guy.  This was just a weekend thing.  I had sex with him only 2 times.  I don't speak to him anymore.   He told me he had a break out 4 days after we had sex that sunday and said that i gave it to him. I know i didnt..He positive for hsv 2..  
All other herpes test i took at first came negative besides the last blood test that shows the low positive.

I had a herpes test on Dec 2008  and the partners (2) that i had before him dont have anything.  

I'm having a hard time getting prescription for the WB test.  My gyn states im positive.  What other way can i get the WB test,

The only way to get it is thru a medical provider. I don't believe the U of washington will even send the kit to you anymore like they used to.  Seek out another provider if your provider isn't up to date on the intricacies of herpes blood testing and the low positives issue.

Hi,

I spoke to my provider and she states the the WB is for HIV testing only.  I told her it was not true and that i want the test anyway.  

Why would she say WB only for HIV..

I have an appt with Dr tomorrow morning at 8am so i could talk to her in person.

Grace i just got back from Gyn and she states she call Quest and labcorp and was told they wont do WB test, only for HIV and other STD.

Also not for Inhibition essay test.  The only way they will do Inhibition test if my number are in a high positive range.

She gave me another prescription for igg 1 & 2.  If numbers are high than labs willl do test for Inhibition.

Quest offers the herpes  WB - it's test # 34534.  

Post your repeat test results when you get them at this point.

Hi Grace,

I went to my gyn and told her i want to get the WB test and she told me Quest did not do that test.  So I myself went to Quest and asked. Was told they do not do the WB 34534...Tired dealing with Quest i then when to Lab Corp,  They told me they do the ELISA TEST Its just as good or maybe even better.  So tomorrow Oct 5 i will be taking the test... its for HSV 1 & 2 # 164905 & 165180.  Wish me Luck.

PS as for now i have not been taking meds and so far no out break besides 2 wks ago i got sick and had a break out on my lip.  Im used to those because been getting sores on lips since a child.  Again wish me luck.. will post results as soon as i get them.

It's still a low positive so either get your next ob cultured and typed to confirm or follow up with the WB  .  I know it's a pain in the butt to keep getting tested but I'd much rather see folks have to get a couple of blood tests or a lesion culture to confirm their status than to assume that they really are infected and not take precautions with future partners who may have hsv2 and end up getting hsv2 before they had to.

You may even want to stop suppressive therapy at this point just to see if you get a return of symptoms to get cultured.

whether the sex is protected or not is up to you and your partner.

No, it's not always just that it's over 3.5 means it has to be positive.  You need to confirm your status just to be sure.

but grace.....i went to two different gyn's and they told me Yes i am positive.....they are going by the igg type spec...im so confused...

I went to a infectious disease Specialist and he went over my test results. He said that I was sure Positve.  The 1.09 low positive dosen't matter.. I am Positve... He gave me Acyclovire 800 mg to take onces a day.  I guess i have to except the fact that i do have herpes 1 & 2...

acyclovir isn't effective when only taken once a day.

You really need to confirm your status with a herpes WB.

Quest or labcorp dont do the  WB test.,. I went to both and asked myself.   That is why Labcorp gave me the ELISA test.   Labcorp states is just as good as the WB....I been testing  so many times that i dont think my insurance will keep on paying for all theses test back to back.   Grace Im so tired of running around and confused
