positive swab/negative blood

I had a viral culture test for herpes come back positive and my blood work negative. Does this means that it is a new infection? If so how long before the antibodies will form?

My partner is negative.

He is the ONLY one that I have had since 11/07.

The majority of the time, a negative igg blood test and a + lesion culture means a newly acquired infection.  Has your partner been tested yet with the igg blood test to know what their status is?

Thanks tom52. I'm really confused. I know the viral swab is accurate since it was done during an outbreak but the blood work is confusing. From what I've been reading it seems negative means its too new to show up but i'm not sure. Good luck to you also

I meant to say, I tested negative for HSV2, not 1.

Hi mscapricorn,

Same thing happened to me.

I tested negative for HSV1 in 3/06 and again in 2/09.

In 4/09 I had an OB that was swabbed. It came back + for HSV2.

I was dumbfounded.  My partner is testing negative and I havent been sexual with anyone other then him for almost 2 yrs.

I will let some one here comment on your results as the same thing happened to me, that happened to you.
I just wanted to reach out and let you know that there are people here who are going through the same thing.

Good luck
