with hx of hsv-1 with frequent breakouts...just this year i've had 6 cold sores. I take oral valtrex if i feel the prodrome and this really helps shorten the duration. Recently, i became sexually involved with male partner, HSV-2 positive x 7 years, outbreak-free x 3 years and on daily suppressive therapy. We have had unprotected sex
so I know I am at risk. My question is: Is there any benefit or harm in going on suppressive therapy myself. I was already considering it since my oral breakouts are so bad, but now wondering if there's any protective role against becoming HSV-2 infected.
I've spent some time researching this specific topic but have found no resources-hope you can help.
There is no medication that can actually help prevent you from getting herpes, there simply made to help the person that is infected. Acyclovir is sometimes used as suppressant therapy. In time you will probably will get HSV 2, but if you are already on the medication, it could make it so you only have mild breakouts, if you have them at all.
I know a couple that is dealing with a similiar situation, having HSV1 the woman wasnt as scared to get HSV2, but the out breaks tend to be more severe. Her first outbreak she couldnt whipe after using the restroom, she had it around her anus as well as around her vagina. And it lasted over 3 weeks. HSV1 is more common
