question about herpes type I

Can you get oral herpes type I from having oral sex with someone who has genital herpes type I?  Or is it only transmittable from mouth to genitals?  

And how much is the risk of a man getting genital herpes type I from a woman if she isn't having an outbreak with a condom and without?

Both HSV1 and HSV2 can be transmitted oral to genital and genital to oral.

There are no stats available about transmission rates of HSV1 genital herpes. However, outbreaks are less frequent, and the virus sheds less than HSV2.

As well, know your partner's status. If he already has oral HSV1 (as the majority of adults do), he has significant protection from getting it genitally.
