red bump in hair of the groin area

by wondering45, Jun 11, 2009 03:05PM
I am a 21 year old male.

I asked a quesiton on here previously before I seen three Drs. (family Dr.,University Dr., Health Dept. Dr.) for assurance.

I had a red bump in my pubis hair after shaving. The Dr. on here said it sounded like Folliculitis, my family Dr. said the same, along with the University Dr. and the Health dept. Nurse.

I haven't shaved since, I never will again, BUT, after work, I noticed I had an irritation on both groin muscle areas. I took a shower, put on baby powder, and it was basically gone the next day. It was basically pinkness in the hair in my groin muscle/fold area. After work the next day, I noticed the irritation was sort of back, and there was a pinkish/reddish bump, like a pimple, in the  right groin hair area. I applied powder after a shower, it was better the next day,but the bump remained. There is a hair coming out of the bump, and it doesn't hurt, it just itches. I shaved this area, though not completely, when I shaved about 2 months ago. I also have a stressful job to my skin (cook at a greasy restaurant).

My questions are: Does this sound anything like Herpes(I know Herpes doesn't occur in hairy areas usually)?
Is it safe to pull the hair, and would that help?
Also, would it be detrimental to pop the bump? If so, what can I do to help this go away? I recently applied goldbond. It isn't a real pain(literally[doesn't hurt at all] and figuratively), but it is slightly annoying, and could be embarrassing.

Also, I have only had sex once, and it was protected, BUT, I had brief unprotected oral sex as well. The girl I was with had no signs of anything, anywhere, and, for what it's worth, said she has never had any sign of a cold sore or disease.

Thanks for your time, it's much appreciated.

This doesn't sound at all like herpes.

follow up with your provider to see if this is a fungal infection you have going on in the creases.

If there is a hair coming out of the bump you can pull it. Don't squeeze, pick and prod the bump though.

Thank you Grace,

I got too curious and tried to pop it. Nothing happened, but I have some bruising and redness around it now. Now it looks amazingly ugly.

Is there anything you would suggest putting on it? Is goldbond okay? I'm going camping tomorrow. It isn't real bothersome, just a slight eyesore.

Good thing: A. It's in a place where the sun doesn't shine. and B. It is pretty much covered by hair.

I'd just put some warm compresses on it throughout the day.  A soak in the tubby would be ok too.  I wouldn't put anything else on it at this point - picking at it obviously irritated it a lot.

Sounds like a ingrown hair. I get them too after shaving.
