second outbreak??

i had my first outbreak two months ago and i had a fever and several sores. the doctor said i have hsv1 genital. i am now trying to figure out if i am having a second outbreak. i have a small "pimple" down there that i noticed a few hours ago. i have a perscription for valtrex.. my question is should i wait until i am sure that i am having an outbreak (formation of sores) to take valtrex or should i go ahead and take it now? i dont have a fever or any of the other symptoms i had during my first outbreak.

I would use Valtrex as a back up in case you are having the outbreak.
When I first was diagnosed, I stopped taking valtrex to see if I would have an outbreak and I did.  Sometimes I would feel it coming and took Valtrex just in case. Now, I'm using medication or else I have continuous outbreaks. Good Luck!

So I assume u had an outbreak of sores or lesions 2 months ago?  Your doc never swabbed the sores or lesions ?  If not, it's really a big error on ur doc part.  Visual diagnosis is not always right and that's why it's important to get it swabbed to do confirm the virus and the typing.  If ur blood test came back positive for hsv1 ... It can either be oral or genital.
Can u have ur fb test thru blood?
God bless, S

hi, the doctor did a antibodies test. i still am not sure how i could have gotten it being that i have been with my bf for quiet some time and he has never exhibited any signs of it and still hasnt but the doctor was positive it was hsv 1 on genitals through oral sex. this pimple is in the same spot as last time. hopefully it is only a pimple and sores do not appear! =[

Hi, how were you diagnosed with hsv1 genital any testing? Also having hsv1 genital outbreak recurrance are not as common or frequent compared to hsv2. It might be advised to hold off taking them as a single pimple type irritation does not appear as a herpes outbreak. Also remember that outbreaks most always occur in the same spot give or take an inch.
