this is were it starts, im a male , i got oral sex from a girl with a condom, she put the Condom on with her mouth, then later she licked my testicle, then after 2 days later i had burning in my urethra after urination and the pain doent go away, so i got scared and got tested for stds, and everything was negative accept IGM herpes test which was positive high,(7.32),i noticed that its worse when i sit, about 20 days or so later my left testicle hurt and i went to my dr and he said that it is epididymitis sounds like a prostate infection and he told me to take cipro for 2 weeks and i did, my testicle pain went away,but the symptoms didnt go away,  my dr ran a urine test at the office , which took like 5 min and he said that the urine is clear, when i uranite theres no pain or when i ejaculate, i feel pressure when i sit,  the burning pain is after i urinate and its always there, the urethra looks red sometimes, no discharge, no sores, there is a hook like lesion on one side of the urethra, its dark and when i wake up it doesnt look that bad, then during the day the lesion looks bigger, i have had this lesion for about 2 months now, if it was herpes doesnt the lesion go away,  there are nothing outside, my dr says it is herpes, he things its herpatic urethritis or herpes causing neuralgia , im going nuts with this pain i had this burning pain for about 42 dayz and its not going away, my best bet is that it is herpatic urethritis, any clue dr, help please. at 6 weeks after exposure my dr did a swab test in the urethra which was negative, the igg test which was negative but the igm again came back positve, so the dr put me on acyclovir 400mg twise a day for 7 days, now at day 56 after uranating in the morning i have burning in the urethra, now if i sit for to long time the pain in the urethra becomes bigger, then if i stand then
if you eat spicy during an outbreak does the pain or burning get worse?
i guess i had one out break after another?

I don't feel that herpetic urethritis would cause burning for 6 weeks in the urethra without any other skin symptoms.  The IgM test for herpes is honestly not useful.  Its not wrong every time, but its wrong a lot.  The test that you want to rely on is IgG, not IgM.  It does sound more like prostate problems, especially the part about sitting.  I would encourage you to return to your doctor or seek another opinion from a urologist.  Your sexual risk was really low, given the condom.  If it would make you feel better, you could do a retest for herpes in 2 more months, but my guess is that you are dealing with something different than herpes at this time.

thank you so much, for the past 5 days the pain was only when i sit, but last night i had  taco bell hot sauce and this morning after i uritanted the burning pain came, when i sit my butt feels pain, could herpes be just in the urethra, the swab test any good, how does a lesion look, the one that i have i showed it to my dr and he said it is normal, it looks like a nerve that look dark like a fishing hook, only on one side, if it was herpes doesnt it go away, this has been there for 8 weeks now, if it was a herpes lesion wouldn't the swab test pick it up, and if it was herpes wouldn't the lesion be on both side of my urethra, now when i sit the pain gets worse and if i try to stand then my lower back hurts, so the igg test at 6 weeks is no good,  if you eat spicy food during an outbreak does the pain or burning get worse? sorry for all the questions, im going nuts just dont know wat to do and my dr is saying that this is herpes causing neuralgia, sitting and increase in pain is that neuralgia?  thank you so much i been going through hell for the past two months.

Food has nothing to do with how herpes feels.  The pain in your butt could be neuralgia, yes, I think we have yet to see if your IgG antibody test becomes positive at some point down the road.  No, herpes in the urethra would not last for 8 weeks constantly, that's just not how this virus behaves.  The lower back pain and the pain in the butt is a little worrisome in terms of herpes, but you just don't report anything else that fits, so I'm confused and I think the only way to see what's going to happen is to wait and do another IgG antibody test.  The fishing hook think also doesn't sound like herpes to me.

i looked it up online and everything adds up that i have herpes with neuralgia, is there any meds i can take for this neuralgia or would i have this pain for life, and does this mean herpes is always active, and i can spread it to someone else, even when i dont have an outbreak, cause im with a girl that dont have herpes and she knows that i have it, and shes ok with it, or is my life pretty much over, should i just break up with her.

STOP THAT!!  You don't know that you have herpes, you are jumping to conclusions.  Yes, get another IgG test and if it is negative, then there is a 70% chance you don't have it, given this timing of the test.  

Here's a problem, though.  If you take antiviral medication constantly, it can interfere with the accuracy of the test.  But if you don't take antiviral medication and you do have, then you are more likely to infect this partner.  Has she actually been tested to know that she doesn't have herpes?  She not the girl who licked your testicles?

there are a few of us with symptoms similar to yours on here.  I had a burning sensation in the urethra for around 10 weeks with no sores, but convinced myself it must be urethral herpes.  I've tested negative at 4 and 7 weeks via igg and am waiting for my 12 week results.  I've noticed anxiety plays a huge role in the severity of my symptoms, and now that Ive started to relax a bit the symptoms have really relapsed.  Keep getting tested, but if you look into urethral syndrome or chronic pelvic pain disorder, our symptoms are a much closer match than a case of herpetic urethratis without any sores or other symptoms.

im takin antiviral med (acyclovir) for the past week and ahalf, should i stop taking it, i was planing on testing next week which will be 8 weeks from exposure,now for the past two days i have sacrum pain that is neuralgia ?, its not big pain but discomfort, i sit alot and the pain in my penis has gone down and the fish hook is still there, how come i dont have any blisters outside or sores, i dont get it, i dont know if this lower back pain is cause i have not eaten right or takning care of myself for the past two months,even before all this everyday when i wake up i get back pain but it use to go away as the day goes by, and plus at work i pull alot of weight and that plays a big role , i hope,only thing i think about is herpes, every sec of the day, and for the past two days when i wake up i feel like my left hip is burning, on the skin side and it goes away after i while, is that neuralgia also, im just going nuts, i dont even want to live anymore, no its not the same girl and this girl has been tested, if this is due to herpes does this mean the virus is always active, and i can never have a sexual life? well me and the new girl are just talking no sexual contact cause i told her im going through this thing and i told her we should wait till everything gets cleared up, the swab test my dr did is that any good?  im sorry but im just going nuts with all this pain, ever little thing that happens to me now i feel like it herpes.

hey borat1 thanks any way, but both of those seems to happen to women, and i have lower back pain and sacrum pain, im just going nuts with this, life is hell right now and it doesnt seem like its going to get better, i have put all my symptoms together, first i had burning pain in the urethra, but not during urination after urination then it would last all day, then its more when i sit, now i get back pain and sacrum pain this more fits in to herpes causing neuralgia, plus i have a hook like lesion on one side of the urethra dont know if thats herpes, my dr did a swab test it came back negative.  im not tryin to say ur wrong but only thing i can think of causing this issue is herpes.  THANKS AND LET ME KNOW UR OPINION

urethral syndrome and CPPS are both male issues.  Both are not very well understood but are thought to be caused by stress and anxiety.  I noticed after I started to doubt HSV as a cause for my symptoms, the symptoms greatley receded.  Hopefully you week 8 test will come back negative and help you relax a bit.  Research has shown that by week 6 60-75% of people will have created antibodies that will show up on an igg herpeselect test.  The best results are from 12-16 weeks and very few take 6 months or more to test positive.  If you're negative at 8 weeks, that should give you some peace of mind.    I'm not sure how the meds will affect the test, over to Terri on that one.

Try to relax, urethral herpes without any visable sores is very common and you had protection on your urethral opening, so I would think that would make it even less likely.

Yes not very common.  And igm tests from what Ive read are pretty useless.

Have more faith in your 8 week Igg test.

I'll let you know how my 11 week comes out.  Also , if you have herpetic urethratis the symptoms would be very painful.  It's been described as pissing on the third rail of a subway track.  I never had more than a 3 out of 10 on the pain scale, but it was non stop.

my symptoms started two days after exposure, thats so like herpes they say 2 to 20 days, then my igm came back positive, then i had burning pain in the urethra really bad, from scale 1-10, it was like 8 at all time, then now i have back pain, with all this i feel 100% its herpatic urethritis, for the past 5 days the burning pain had stopped, then today the burning pain have come back again its like a 5, well next week it will be 8 and half week post exposure and im going to get tested, we shall see, in my mind i think it will say positive, only thing i dont get is that i have no blisters or sores, im just going nuts with this, i got tested at six weeks post exposure and the igm was negative and the swab test was negative. we shall see the test next week.  hope its negative.

well im planing on getting a igg test tomorrow, i stopped taking the antiviral med for 4 days now, so do you think that it will effect the test and give me a false negative, and i went to my dr and he thinks its prostatitis, i went to taco bell the other day and had some hot sauce and when i woke and urinated it burned a little, the burning has went down for about 10 days now, its off and on, now my problem is my butt is sore, its more when i sit, i still have no blisters or sores, some times i get lower back pain, and i told my dr about the back pain and he says that prostate problem can cause that also, im just going nuts, my dr tested my urine to see if there is any urethritis and he said the urine is clear, and also my dr said that if i had my first outbreak then he said it can last up to 6 weeks, i feel like my case seems more like neuralgia, im goign to see a urologist this week, if it was herpes does burning last 5 to 6 week non stop? well the test im going to take will be about 8 and a half week post exposure, and at 6 weeks the igg was negative, im hopping its not herpes but everythin adds up to herpes

Hey bud,

From what I picked up herpes would wax and wane more than your symptoms (or mine) did.  You've never had any sores and keep testing negative, so that's good news.  I'm not sure what the meds will do to the test results, but if the meds didn't seem to help your symptoms, that would be abother reason to doubt this is HSV.  I was convinced this was urethral herpes and it took until the 12 week test to start to relax.  I'm still having mild CPPS symptoms.  The burning is pretty much gone, but I've been having this strange tingling in the prostate and genital area.  Of coarse tingling could be anything from diabetes to prostatis to herpes, so I'm hoping time will get me back to normal.

The last 10 weeks of symptoms was utter hell and I'm sure things will get better for you as well.  Try and convince yourself this isn't herpes until something proves other wise and see how much that helps.

Hang in there, it will get better.

Great news!  I'm at a loss for what is causing these symptoms???  There are quite a few of us on this forum right now going through the same thing, burning tip...  no UTI...  no sores...  doesn't appear to be an STD...  

I'm the farthest along at just over 12 weeks post exposure (if that had anything to do with it), and things were improving quite a bit.  I have been experiencing slight pressure from my prostate to my groin area, and I'm starting to think prostatis is the cause.  CPPS or prostatis is not really understood well, and could have all kinds of causes...  including anxiety.  What I'm trying to figure out is why when I'm pretty relaxed post negative HSV test results, my prostate started hurting today after having a bit of sexual contact.  Now, since this started, I haven't been using my prostate much, so that may have something to do with it.  

Hopefully you'll keep testing negative for HSV and we can figure out what is causing all this trouble.

Nope,

No urologist yet.  I've seen my local doc and done a crap ton of research.  From what I've read, CPPS can go away in a few months after the anxiety reduces.  I'm thinking the herpes scare kicked off my CPPS and trying to relax may be the answer.  If not, then I'll be heading to a urologist.

well i went to a urologist and after listening  to my symptoms he said it was  chronic prostitutes and he gave me some anti-inflammatory drug and i took and everything kind of calmed down and the two days ago i ate some spicy food and the next morning my urethra was burning, now its two days later still have the burning, i have read that herpes can cause prostitutes and now im thinking this is the cause, i did a igg test at 8 week and it was negative, this week its going to be 12 weeks and im planing on taking the igg again and i think that its going to turn up positive this week or by 4 months. still no blisters or sores, i had sore butt and back pain, after taking the anti-inflammatory drug that went away. any help please. what do you know about herpes and prostitutes.
