A visual diagnosis is a good reason to treat but you still need additional testing. Your partner also needs a type specific herpes igg blood test done so you can both make educated decisions about what precautions to take from this point forwardif you do have genital herpes.
either of you could've had hsv1 or hsv2 prior to meeting each other and never knew it. odds are neither of you have ever been tested for herpes before.

No she has not - she is going to get tested next week. My doctor diagnosed with visual inspection. I have not had results from the actual blood test back yet
has your partner been tested for herpes too?

From what I've gathered after months of searching for info, most people report symptoms within 3-5 days, with the general time frame being 2-20 days and there are reports of people missing their initial infection but noticing a later outbreak months or even years down the road.
I'm sure Grace is going to ask you this, but how were you diagnosed? Visual inspection? Culture or PCR? IgM or IgG blood tests? Seems that there are a lot of doctors out there who aren't up to date on the latest methods of diagnosing HSV. For instance, I had a doctor perform a herpeselect IgM & IgG blood test 10 days after a possible exposure and based on that negative test they told me I was fine. From this site, I learned that I had to wait 3 months for an accurate test.
every one is different you can have symptoms within weeks or not have an outbreak at all for months. if either of you have had other sexual partners before your relationship began either of you could have contracted HSV from a previous partner and didn't know. That's why its always important to test before starting a new relationship or having other sexual partners.
