How long does it take for hsv-1 genitally to show symptoms on a male? What are the odds of getting hsv-1 from a girl that has it genitally? How can I prevent myself from transmission, and how do I know when it is safe to perform oral on her? I want to make myself perfectly safe for the oral part.

hsv1 genitally doesn't shed much at all - less than a dozen days out of the year on average. It's not likely you'd contract it from a partner though it can happen.

symptoms occur within 2-20 days.
