Is it possible to contract herpes from protected sex. A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with herpes and we both had sex with the same guy (not at the same time) I am now worried about contracting herpes. I had protected sex with him however I did perform oral sex on him (prior to vaginal sex) without a condom. I am now worried that i have herpes and furthermore that I have HIV?? Someone please help me understand.

Apparently you can catch herpes from protected sex and from oral sex, but I believe the risk is low, especially if they had no visible signs of the disease.

Is your friend sure she got herpes from the guy you had sex with?

If so, that does not mean you will get herpes from him.  The best thing

to do is be tested, for herpes and hiv.  Also, would it be possible for you

to ask the guy to be tested?  If he is neg, your worries are over.
