Hello -- I feel like I am going crazy trying to figure out whether I have contracted genital herpes or not. A week and a half ago, I fooled around with a partner just as I had a cold sore forming. He ended up performing oral sex
area but no visible lesions. I took acyclovir for my cold sore for five days, but stopped that about five days ago.
I went to my ObGyn and she said there was no way to diagnose whether or not i had genital herpes since I had no active lesions and a blood test would be positive since I have had oral herpes all my life.
So, now I don't know what to do. I continue to have these uncomfortable symptoms but don't know what they are from (and can't think of any other reason other than genital herpes). But without a diagnosis, I don't know what to do, in terms of future partners -- I would feel horrible if I were to unknowingly transmit genital herpes to someone. At the same time, i don't know if these symptoms necesitate some kind of disclosure of "potential" infection.
I had a burning sensation in my genital area for 5 or 6 days. I dismissed the feeling as I was told it was highly unlikely but possible that I contracted herpes. 4 weeks after the situation my genital area seemed itchy with slightly moist areas with no real visible differences. To me it seems like a very mild herpes breakout. I want to take a herpes blood test but my doctor told me it would not yield any medication or treatment options if symptoms remained ambiguous. She also informed me that many people have already been introduced to the herpes virus so a positive result would not prove anything. I still feel it is important to get a blood test if it can determine exposure to HSV-1 and HSV-2; even if it is only for personal understanding and cannot yield any treatment. I feel obligated to inform my partner even if I don't have spacific symptoms.
a vague burning sensation is not herpes. Having burning happening for weeks on in without lesions are not indicative of herpes at all. Sounds like you ladies are spending to much time on the computer looking up symptoms. People assume the worst when things happen to their genitals and then anxiety kicks in and they symptoms manifest from the brain. You both are fine. Stay off the net and if a lesion happens, then go get it checked out.
