very confused. questions about valtrex.

I went to the gyn about the ulcers and pain i had on my vulva, and she didnt seem to pay any attention to the things i told her about the recent staph infection or the antibiotics or my recent hospitalization. she said she thinks its herpes and prescribed valtrex. she did a swab and two blood tests, all of which i have not received the results back for. but insisted that i take herpes medication. is this a good idea if i dont have herpes after all? i took the pills for the past few days and the pain is significantly increased and i am getting more ulcers every time i check. is that a risk with the medicine? and if it is herpes how long would it take for valtrex to work on my symptoms? i can't stand this pain much longer, i have had these awful sores for 9 days now and they do not seem to be getting better. should i wait for my test results to come back or go see someone else or just suffer? i have had many different painful illnesses (collapsed lung, pancreatitis,...) but none of those has ever brought me to tears just from moving. if it is herpes, is that a normal feeling during an outbreak? is it going to be this excruciating every time?

another concern is that the packet that came from the pharmacy with the prescription specifically names one of the antibiotics that i have been taking intravenously for the past few weeks as something not to take with valtrex as it may cause serious kidney damage. i just stopped taking the iv med 1 day before i started taking valtrex. should i be concerned about that? and shouldnt the dr have paid attention to that risk?

Hi, just read you are a nurse.
I got diagnosed with a UTI but i didn't take the urine sample.
My dr. doesn't know i have herpes, so she gave me Cipro for 12 days.
However, I believe taking ABs for a virus caused UTI is useless. So i started taking valtrex and i instantly felt better.
My question is, is it ok to take both ABs and Valciclovir together?
Do i stop the antibiotics?
Thanks

yea. thanks, i am going to try to see another doctor. advil doesnt work. i have tried that, tylenol, excedrin, motrin, vicodin, percocet, and even morphine at the hospital er when this first started and i had other symptoms (dizziness, ringing in ears, blurred vision) which they attributed to side effects from the antibiotics and dehydration. i appreciate the suggestion, but i have built a high tolerance to pain medicines and yes, it is actually that bad. :(  I do hope you go see a dr soon also, the sooner you go, the sooner you will find out and get treated.

No harm in treating for herpes even if you don't have it.  I also wouldn't worry about valtrex and your antibiotics either.

at this point why not go get a 2nd opinion on what's going on since you don't seem comfortable with the work up your gyn has done so far?
