vulvar swelling caused by herpes recurrence?

I have this felling that i may have been exposed to hsv. I had some severe itching that lasted for almost 6 wks. It came n went. The itching was so severe that i would have vulvar swelling and I would get extremely red, almost purple down there. I also had like a split in the skin right at the top of my vagina where the labia meet. (I was also using a feminine spray at this time.) At the time I thought it was a yeast infection but then my boyfriend came back into my life and about 2 wks later i had some small red spots, i say spots bc they were so flat that I would've never known they were there had i not looked. They didnt look like blisters and didnt deem like they were draining, they were just flat. They did hurt a little when i urinated but i thought it was bc of the irritation from the itching. I was given a prescription to treat a yeast infection but I didnt take the meds right away. I actually took them like a day or two before I noticed the red spots. But the spots went away like 2 days later with no scabbing. I have read that a yeast infection can cause red spots similar to herpes but i havn't been into the dr yet. Last wk i had very slight itching in my vaginal area. Nothing uncomfortable. But after my boyfriend and I had sex i noticed my labia minora was swollen. That lasted for 2 days. If I do have herpes....could this have been a recurrence?
