what is the possibility of passing herpes from a cold sore?

Last night my husband and I had oral sex.   He has a cold sore on his lip that hes had for almost a week now.  his lips didnt touch me at all.  I got scared and got online to see if you can even spread them that way and it said yes.  I washed with soap and water after this for probably ten minutes.  Im really scared now though.  I wanted to know the chance that it would even pass to me.....

Chances are good that you probably already have hsv1 orally whether you can recall ever getting obvious cold sores or not. If you really want to know, ask your provider to order a type specific herpes igg blood test for you to find out.  It's not likely that you'll contract hsv1 genitally after having it orally but for the future, don't let hubby perform oral on you when he has a cold sore for both risk of transmission as well as the normal bacteria in the genital area, isn't always so normal when it gets into an open cold sore.

Meanwhile try not to freak about it. Unless you get obvious symptoms in the genital area it's not an issue.
