which Herpes Testing procedure is accurate

Hello All,

I checked many websites for Herpes testing and i am confused who is correct. some are saying that a culture test is accurate to determine the Herpes Type 1 and 2 and some are saying the IGG blood test is more accurate and culture test is less accurate.

Could you please tell which one i should prefer and which one is more accurate and suggested by most of the experienced doctors.

if you have fresh symptoms you can get a lesion culture. It needs to be done within 48 hours of the start of symptoms.

the type specific herpes igg blood tests can be used for general screening. You need to wait 4 months after the last time you had sex for their results to be accurate.

I had a fellatio with a lady back in Nov 2007, at that time i met the doctor after 120 days, he tested and told me that i don't have any STD's nor HIV positive.

Do you think he might have overlooked or something went wrong at that time of testing. I guess the IGG test would be the ideal test in my situation as it was more than 4 months back. Do you still suggest me to have a culture test also next time when i first find the symptoms.
