worried help please

I was recently diagnoised with genital herpes. My doctor said I was recently exposed. I have had no signs or symptoms. But I have 7 sores on my arm. They are serveral inches apart, not blistered but do have pus and blood come out when I clean them. They do not itch and are not sore, just very nasty looking and they are also pitted in the middle. Please someone help. My doctor is out of town.

www.ashastd.org has a list of herpes support groups under the herpes section there. if there isn't one near you, check out yahoo groups to see if there is one near you online there.

have you gotten a chance to read the free herpes handbook yet at www.westoverheights.com?

One more question (so sorry). I've never had an outbreak that I am aware of. But can you tell me why my doctor said I didn't need medication and if I had an outbreak to come back and see her. She said I may never have an outbreak

Thanks grace. Sorry my phone was messed up and posted that a little weird. I don't care that he posted it. I have it and there is nothing I can do. I just need to be strong and take care of my children. Can you point me in the right direction of how to find a good local support group?

well your arm issues still probably are not herpes related.

Your hsv2 igg being over 5 means it's not likely to be a false positive. do you have a regular partner and if so have they been tested yet?

I guess being negative for everything else is a good thing

Sorry. I do have my results and they are positive.
HerpeSelect test results.
HSV 1 IgG 0.32
HSV 2 IgG. > 5.00

Just a little depressed. I meant for Grace to know I did go to the doctor and I am positive

You gotta give us more details. Ask for a copy of your results - it matters if it was a IgG, IgM, the numbers, etc.

you waited enough time that if you had contracted herpes, your igg would be positive. once you get your test results back to post, I can better help you :)

Thanks Grace. It was 2 different one night stands. I hadn't been with anyone in over 2 years due to divorce. I have known both men for 20 years. my physician assistant said I had always tested negative. Both men are saying they are negative. Condoms were used and no oral was done. I slept with one in Feb and had my yearly and full STD done in June. I slept with the second one in July. I tested positive in Nov. My doctor actually called me, she will be back in the office on Monday and asked that I wait to see her.

no. as I said, if it's a + igm test for herpes, it has a very high false positive rate so it being + is meaningless. the cdc recommends that igm testing for herpes not be performed on adults any more because of the false positive issues.

how long prior to being tested for herpes had you last had sex?  do you have a regular partner and if you do, have they been tested yet to know their own status?

Ok so the nurse at my doctors office couldn't see where the results were even in my chart. I have an appointment @ 5 on Friday to see another doctor in the same office. I will post my results then. But I do have a question about my doctor saying I was exposed recently to HSV 2 , can she really know this?

if your provider is saying you were recently infected because of a + igm herpes test, they are erring greatly :(  If you can get the results of your blood test to post here, I'll gladly take a look at them. Just post the actual numeric results - e.g. hsv1 igg 7.9 and hsv2 igg .23 or whatever they are.

sores on the arms aren't likely to be due to herpes. if your regular doctor is out of town, ask them for a referral elsewhere.

yea i had the same experience....after doing research, a lot of doctors have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to herpes....find out what your test results are...just because a test is positive doesn't neccesarily mean you have it.

I am in this boat, i was tested with a 1.89 which is a low positive and can be a FALSE positive...it happens...a lot of doctors (including mine) feel that a positive is positive, when in fact you may not have it...find out what number is associated with your test....if its between 1.1-3.5 you will need additional testing to confirm your results...try not to panic as much as i am haha

I was diagnoised by a blood test. I wasn't given any numbers just told that I was very recently exposed and it was type 2

herpes on the arm is a very unusual place to have them, actually extremely rare.

How were you diagnosed?
