worried over herpes symptoms

by davy1, Apr 27, 2009 02:33PM
Hi,

I'm really worried i may have caught herpes as i seem to be showing the symptoms. i was hoping somebody could answer a couple of questions for me.

30 days ago i had protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex with an escort. She had no visible blisters on her mouth or groin area.

Within 3 days i experienced a fever and chills. I was also experiencing leg pains during this period.
I had burning in my groin area. I had no visible blisters however.

I went to a std clinic and without anything to swab they couldnt diagnose herpes although my other symptoms concerned them. They gave me an anti fungal cream for the burning sensation as my skin was very dry around the groin. I used this for a week and it provided relief and the burning went away.

25 days after the encounter i experienced a slight fever again. the burning in my groin/inner thigh/scrotum recommenced. i have had a look at the skin and it is as if it has been burnt. it is a much darker brown then the rest of my skin.

my questions are:

1) if it was herpes, would i have 2 outbreaks so close to each to other? or if this was my primary outbreak, would i have it so soon after the encounter?

2) is it possible to have the fever and the burning sensation without blistering?

i have been to a std clinic. they say it may have been jock itch but were really non committal.

Thanks (and apologies for the essay!) (and apologies for posting in the wrong section initially).

i forgot to mention that the head/tip of my penis has also been very sore and sensitive recently. Again there are no blisters on the peins head.

It is possible to have Herpes symptoms that don't actually produce the blistery rash,it is also possible for symptoms to show up after 3 days although it usually takes slightly longer than that,I'm not entirely convinced this is Herpes but since unprotected oral sex took place it would be best to get tested a bit later on if only to put your mind at rest because it's my guess that now thats it's in your head you will be constantly looking for something and that is not a healthy way to be every day, I do know that some people actually feel things that aren't there because their mind is consumed with thoughts of Herpes 24/7  ......
The tip of your penis being a bit sore could simply be a little trauma from the sex if it was a bit rough.
Get tested to err on the side of caution and also to let yourself move on ......
Flu like symptoms don't necessarily mean Herpes

Thanks.

You're correct in stating that some people think about it 24/7...i'm one of them!

i am beginning to think that it is jock itch. i have seen some pictures online and they match what i currently have, with regards to the burnt skin. i guess i am stuck on herpes as i had unprotected oral.

Thanks for the advice, i have had an igg test last week and i shall have another one in 2 months.

sorry, one further question. i engaged in a lot of kissing with the escort. if i did contract hsv 1, would i not see it in the form of an oral sore rather than a genital one?

HSV1 can present in either the Oral region or the Genital region depending on where the infection transmitted ...... The number of Genital HSV1 infections is on the increase due to unprotected Oral sex with a partner who suffers from Oral Cold Sores there doesn't have to be a visible cold sore for this to happen, the same applies to HSV2 transmission because both virus's shed from time to time even when no symptoms are visible, the problem is we don't really know when this happens so it's a bit of a Lottery really ......
